THE ONLY REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOXING GYMS AROUND THE WORLD, IS WHERE THEY STAND
Different Streets, Different Cities, Different Lands, but walk through the Doors and BOXING speaks the same Language
The Bell, The Gloves, The Nerves, The Corner
Because a TRUE Boxing Trainer is never just a Trainer
A Coach, A Teacher, A Mentor, A Father Figure, A Friend,
A Psychologist, A Doctor, A Disciplinarian, A Protector,
A Cornerman
They Wrap your Hands, Calm your Fears, Share your Wins
And Carry your Losses
They Teach you how to FIGHT
But somewhere between the BELLS and the BRUISES, between being Knocked Down and learning how to STAND.
THEY TEACH YOU HOW TO LIVE
This was one of Mine

His Leg had been crushed by a Truck at Work, Brace on, Crutches underneath him.
Life had knocked him DOWN, Squashed him.
BUT IT HADN’T KNOCKED HIM OUT
Because there he is, beside a Young Fighter at the Scales
STILL SHOWING UP
We don’t know the Young Bloke, the Fight, the Year or the Place, but SOMEBODY DOES
If you know WHO, WHEN or WHERE, TELL US
I’ve had a few Trainers walk beside me, Mick Canavan, Brian Levier, Terry Condie, Pete Dowling, Kevin Marks, Kid Mark and Dave Hedgcock
Different Men, Different Times, Different Rounds, but every one. STOOD IN MY CORNER
The Kid becomes the Fighter, the Fighter becomes the Man, then one day the Man holds the Ropes open for the next Kid
Mick gave some of that to Me
So when I started a little Boxing Club from a Carport, I gave it his Name
MVC : MICHAEL VICTOR CANAVAN
Then came the Fights outside the Ropes
Doors Closed, WE FOUND ANOTHER DOOR
They said NO, WE KEPT GOING
MVC became MARKS VS COUNCIL
Until the Fighters, Families, Trainers and Volunteers made those three Letters bigger than any one of us
MOST VALUABLE COMMUNITY
BOXING IS ONE OF LIFE’S GREATEST TEACHERS
And maybe its greatest lesson is this,
WHAT WAS GIVEN TO YOU,
YOU GIVE TO THE NEXT ONE
Trainer to Fighter, Father to Son, Mate to Mate
GENERATION TO GENERATION
Someone stood in OUR CORNER
SO WE STAND IN THEIRS
SAME FIGHT, SAME HEART, SAME CORNER
