From Week 18 to Week 19 — Botswana golf is moving in the right direction.
Following the recent tournament, Botswana’s top amateur golfers registered notable movements in the World Amateur Golf Rankings:
• Lone Masalila remains Botswana’s highest-ranked player, continuing to lead the charge on the continental stage.
• Thomo Mokgatle climbed significantly, improving both his world position and points average after a strong showing.
• Matthews Mokalake also continued his upward rise with another positive jump in the rankings.
The growth may look small on paper, but in world golf rankings every point, every finish and every tournament matters. Step by step, Botswana golf continues to gain momentum internationally.

Mokgatle Leads Botswana’s Brave Charge at African Golf Championship-Region 5
Botswana’s golfers delivered determined performances at the African Golf Confederation and R&A tournament held at Ezulwini Golf & Country Club in Eswatini, competing against some of the continent’s rising talents.
Leading the local charge was Thomo Mokgatle, who secured an impressive 11th place finish overall with a total score of 226 (+10) after rounds of 78, 74 and 74. Mokgatle showed consistency in the final two rounds to finish just outside the top 10.
Another commendable performance came from Baatile Kevin Mangole, who finished in 23rd position on a total of 243 (+27). Despite a challenging final round, Mangole displayed resilience throughout the competition.
Lone Masalila also represented Botswana proudly, ending the tournament in 24th place with a score of 244 (+28) after improving significantly in the second round.
Meanwhile, Mathews Mokalake completed the event in T25th position on 246 (+30), bouncing back strongly in the final round with a score of 79.
Overall the team finished in position 6 out of 9 countries that participated.
The tournament attracted golfers from across Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho and hosts Eswatini.

The curtain has officially fallen on the 5th Delta Botswana Junior Championship;a thrilling three days at the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club!
Nearly 100 young golfers, from Botswana,Brazil,,Zimbabwe,Namibia,Zambia and South Africa aged 6 to 19, showcased incredible talent, passion, and sportsmanship, proving that the future of Botswana golf is in great hands.
Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, also paid a visit to the course, sharing in the excitement and emphasizing the importance of hosting tournaments of this scale for youth development.
Congratulations to all the winners and well done to every participant for rising to the challenge!
