💃 When Youth Lead, Something Powerful Happens.
What happens when a youth dancer takes on a Latin Hip Hop challenge led by a young instructor?
Today, Giancarlo stepped outside his usual dance style as Gina Mir, Youth Facilitator for Rise Through Rhythm, taught him a fun Latin Hip Hop fusion routine at danceScape.
There were laughs, missed steps, encouragement, and plenty of energy—but that's exactly what Rise Through Rhythm is all about.
It's more than dance.
It's about creating spaces where children and youth can build confidence, develop leadership skills, express themselves, connect with others, and discover who they can become through movement and shared experiences.
And the learning doesn't stop in the studio.
In just a few days, Giancarlo will take another step outside his comfort zone as he performs for the first time with the danceScape Performance Ensemble at Latin Night during eat make share: a taste of immigration.
Giancarlo isn't a competitive dancer. He's a social dancer—someone who dances for the joy of movement, music, friendship, and community—and who is willing to say "yes" to trying something new and sharing that journey with others.
That's the heart of danceScape.
That's the vision of Rise Through Rhythm.
When youth lead, something powerful happens.
✨ Move. Connect. Grow. Lead.

🎭 Every performance has a beginning.
After rehearsal for Latin Night at the Museum, we asked everyone:
"Were you nervous?"
Paty smiled and said,
"This will be our first public performance."
Then she apologized.
Robert's response?
"Never apologize. This is the start of your artistic career!" ❤️😂
Just like that, the nerves turned into laughter.
The conversation drifted from first performances to future dreams.
🎬 Giancarlo wants to be a YouTuber.
🎸 The rest of us apparently want to be rock stars.
As everyone cooled down after rehearsal, the Paz family shared stories about their journey from Mexico to Canada. Javier spoke about his life as an influencer and radio DJ before immigrating, and some of his longtime followers even stopped by rehearsal to say hello.
By their side was Negra, the family's loyal companion, quietly enjoying the afternoon as everyone chatted, laughed, and reflected together. It was a simple moment that somehow captured what family, community, and belonging are all about.
Before the afternoon ended, Gina from Rise Through Rhythm was teaching Giancarlo a few hip-hop moves—a reminder that culture doesn't stand still. It grows, evolves, and finds new expressions.
That's what Latin Night at the Museum means to us.
Not just dancing.
But people.
Stories.
Family.
Friendship.
And the courage to share a little piece of your culture with your community.
❤️ Every performance has a beginning. Every family has a story.

🥊 Nobody warned him about the punch sequence.
He thought he was walking into a dance class.
Then he saw the punches.
The arm toning.
The core work.
And suddenly he discovered where the "TONE" in danceTONE comes from. 😂
Don't worry.
danceTONE is still a dance fitness class.
We move to Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha, and Latin-inspired music while incorporating toning exercises designed to strengthen the arms, core, and all those areas people love to work on.
💃 Fun 🔥 Fitness 🥊 Toning ❤️ Great people
Because sometimes the best workouts don't feel like workouts.

Leave ready to dance with the locals.
You start at danceTONE cardio in Burlington for the workout.
You end up confidently dancing on vacation — with the locals in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Curaçao, and beyond.
No more watching from the sidelines.
No more feeling awkward when the music starts.
Just pure freedom to join the celebration.
We move to Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cha Cha & Latin rhythms — not to become pros, but to feel comfortable participating in the culture instead of observing it.

Drop a 💃 if you’re done sitting on the sidelines.
💃 They challenged me to Persian dance.
But what stayed with me wasn't the dance.
It was the story.
During the Museums of Burlington's eat make share: a taste of immigration exhibition, Gina and her mother Farnaz shared memories of growing up in Iran.
For Gina, childhood meant spending most of her time at her grandmother's home. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all lived nearby. Family wasn't something you visited. Family was simply part of everyday life.
When her parents decided to immigrate to Canada, she wasn't happy.
She missed her grandmother.
She missed the family gatherings.
She missed home.
Today, she understands the opportunities her parents hoped to create and feels grateful for the sacrifices they made.
Along the way, we talked about food, hospitality, respect for elders, searching for authentic ingredients, and why a simple loaf of bread can carry so much meaning. And how places like Samir's Supermarket in Burlington help keep those connections alive.
And yes...
They challenged me to Persian dance.
What started as a dance challenge became a conversation about family, culture, gratitude, and the traditions we carry with us wherever life takes us.
That's what makes the Museums of Burlington's eat make share exhibition so special.
Every recipe has a story.
Every family has a story.
And sometimes those stories end with a dance.
