The elk rut is on. Testosterone fuelled elk charging around the Banff and Canmore townsites are a really good reason to be carrying readily available bear spray. Although it is frequent to find elk hanging around close to and extremely tolerant of humans, the rut is the time to keep a good 10 bus lengths away and understand that they are very wild and unpredictable this time of year. We rent bear spray.
