Today, Minister responsible for Sport Ernie Hudson issued the following statement:

β€œI am pleased to congratulate Mark Arendz on his outstanding performance at the 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games.

Mark has once again delivered on the world stage, capturing a silver medal in the men’s Para biathlon individual standing event and bronze in the men’s Para cross-country skiing 10-kilometre interval start classic standing event. These accomplishments are the result of years of hard work and dedication, and they reaffirm Mark’s place as one of Canada’s most decorated Paralympians.

Mark is a trailblazer in para sport nationally and internationally, and his recent achievements add to an extraordinary career that spans several Paralympic Games and world championships. Beyond these results, Mark is also recognized for his leadership and impact on the growth and profile of para sport, and he continues to be an inspiration for Islanders and young athletes across the country.

I would also like to recognize Menno Arendz for his role as head coach of biathlon for Team Canada, and for taking part in his first Paralympic Games. The technical support from coaches is essential to helping athletes succeed at this level, and we thank Menno for the expertise he brings to Canada’s Paralympic team.

Congratulations once again to Mark Arendz. Your performance is another standout moment in an already remarkable career, and Islanders are incredibly proud.”
