This past Saturday was the Fredericton Spring Tornado! 17 players took part in a fun and competitive day of chess. After four hard-fought rounds, the prize winners were as follows:

Tied for first with a score of 3.5/4 were Jonah Dobbelsteyn and Jason Manley

Top Under 1700 was Johann Tangoan with 3/4. Tied for second Under 1700 with 2/4 were Lance Beloungie, Evan Delisle, Yurii Kosianenko and Lijing Chen

Thanks to all the players for a great event, and congratulations to the prizewinners! The next event in Fredericton will be the 2026 New Brunswick Open Championship, taking place June 20-21.

This past weekend saw the 2026 Fredericton Quads take place! 24 players took part across 6 round robin groups, and after a fun day of highly competitive chess, the winners of the groups were as follows:

Group A: Matt Kelly, 2/3

Group B: Vadim Mandel, 2.5/3

Group C: Ben Englehart, 3/3

Group D: Ian Phillips, 3/3

Group E: Corey Pagett, 2.5/3

Group F: Edrick Belczewski, 3/3

The first event of the year, the Fredericton Winter Tornado, took place yesterday. 21 players braved the elements to take part in four rounds of hard-fought chess, and at the end of the day, the prize-winners were as follows:

The winner of the event, with a perfect 4/4 score, was Jonah Dobbelsteyn. Jason Manley and Arez Nosrat Pour finished tied for second at 3.5/4.

Top Under 1800 was shared by Raphael Jon Tangoan and Vahid Maleki Raee at 3/4.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all the players for a great day of chess! A particular thank you to Paul Vigneau for his help as an arbiter in the event.

This past Saturday saw the New Brunswick Active Championship take place at the Odell Lodge in Fredericton. Twenty players took part across two highly competitive sections for a great day of chess. After 5 hard-fought rounds, the final results were as follows:

In the Under 1700 section, first place was won by Yurii Kosianenko with 4/5. Tied for second with 3.5/5 were Fedor Perminov and Vahid Maleki Raee.

In the Championship second, there was a four way tie for first at 3.5/5, with Jason Manley, Arez Nosrat Pour, Philippe Cliche and Michael Burba. After tiebreak, the 2025 New Brunswick Active Champion is Arez Nosrat Pour!
