One Boat. Many Stories.

Before the boat there were…

🍎 Classrooms.

⚖️ Courtrooms.

🪖 Military bases.

💼 Boardrooms.

🏡 Family kitchens.

💪 Fitness studios.

📰 Newsrooms.

🎨 Design tables.

🎗️ Cancer treatment rooms.

There were triumphs.

There were setbacks.

There were careers.

There were families.

And thousands of ordinary days.

Then somehow we all ended up in the same boat! 🐉

Today we train together on the Rideau River.

This September, we’ll have the honour of representing Canada at the Club Crew World Championships in Taiwan. 🇨🇦🐉

We’re a group of women with very different stories, but a shared goal. Every early morning practice, every kilometre paddled, and every fundraiser brings us one step closer.

Our families stood out there watching us race in the rain all day. Grandchildren stomped in puddles, and under the tent we squeezed together, shared food, extra layers and tried to stay warm.

2:40pm
At marshalling before the 2000m, we called for a team huddle. A soaked Natacha, after steering for us and coaching our sister teams in the rain all day, looked up and asked:

“Did you say cuddle?” 🐉 🥰

It felt like the perfect summary of the day; honestly we all needed one!

Our cross-roster friends helped us get the boat to the start line and finish— we thank you. We raced together with pride, different jerseys but one love for the sport. 💜🤍❤️

Dragon boat is about racing. But it’s also about family- family by boat and by blood, and sometimes, it’s just a bunch of wet women trying to stay warm and get to their next race. Paddles up!

Mid-camp update! 🌅🐉

Sleeping better. Training harder. Learning more with every practice piece.

Yesterday gave us everything:
A fish literally jumped into the boat mid-piece. Absolute chaos. Everyone yelling advice; Sandra and Elizabeth calmly caught the poor little guy as he flopped under the seats. (“He can’t stay in here!!” 🤭) Somehow we stayed upright, fish survived, and we laughed till we cried.

Then there was Mary Jo — our fitness powerhouse — leading warmup like an absolute legend. Strong, funny, energetic and completely owning what aging athletically can look like. We took so much video. Wait till you see this reel!! 👑💪🩷

But the best part?
Practicing the 2000m race pieces against a younger mixed team.

Three-minute intervals.
Hard up-turns.
Power 8s
Water flying everywhere.
Breathing hard enough you can hear the grind in every paddler around you.

And finally Natacha calls:
“10 seconds!”

We pour whatever is left into the water.

The suffering is real.
But sitting right beside it is adrenaline, pride, teamwork and the thrill of performance.

That’s racing.
And honestly?
We can’t wait to do it again.
