Our condolences to Mr Suda's family and the Abbotsford Judo Club. He was a great man and friend to many. We will miss you.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved founder, Tokue “Sensei” Suda (1950 – 2026).

Mr. Suda was a 7th-degree black belt whose lifelong dedication, honor, and resilience transformed our martial arts community. A quiet, humble man with a giant presence, he touched countless lives both on and off the mat. His greatest passion culminated in founding the Abbotsford Judo Club, which he built into the largest dojo in British Columbia through his gentle nature and relentless devotion to his students.

He was a truly special man. We will forever hold him in our hearts, cherish his memory, and carry on his remarkable legacy here at the dojo. Our thoughts and love go out to his family, friends, and the extended judo community in both Canada and Japan.

Memorial Contributions

Sensei and some of our athletes are attending the Next Gen Academy this week with team BC in Montreal.

This is an elite development program offered to young high potential athletes hosted by Judo Canada. They will have the opportunity to have high intensity training sessions led by national coaches.

Goodluck to Sensei and our athletes. Have fun and don’t eat too much poutine!

Team BC has finished a week of training in Fiesch Switzerland, and even snuck a hike in! Seems a long way to go to see cows, but the view was stunning!

Headed to Paris for a final night and then back to beautiful British Columbia!

When you work hard, you get to play hard too! Some of the sights in France, including Dunes de Pilat, eating their body weight in oysters, and they even got some surfing in (with jesse documenting)!

Now they've arrived in Switzerland for the next judo camp!

PG Judo is working hard on the mats in France, and unfortunately with some injuries to show. Preston bounced right back but Jesse has his arm immobilized for at least a couple days. Proud of how hard they're working!

When in France!

FIFA game today, France vs Spain, and Team BC was in France cheering them on after a hard day of training! Even though France didn't win, still fun times to be had. 🇫🇷⚽️

And they're on their way! Sensei Aline, Jesse, and Preston (accompanied by Northern Capital Judo team mate Olivia)are on their way to train for 2 weeks in France and Switzerland! These 3 athletes worked incredibly hard to be invited on this trip, and even harder to raise the funds to pay for it! Thank you to everyone who helped support them along the way. Stay tuned for updates on the training camps and any fun they might get up to!
