“Riding gives you the opportunity to be more present in the world around you. You smell a yummy bakery or people barbequing when you ride in a town or city or a freshly worked field or a sparkling lake when you are out and about the countryside. You feel the air get cooler as you ride through a valley. You are present in the moment as you navigate tricky terrain on an adventure or dirt bike or traffic on a street bike. The air flowing over you feels like it literally blows away your worries, stresses, and any intrusive thoughts. These are not things you can experience in a vehicle. Because of just that word “in”, you are inside something blocking out the outside world.
After experiencing an unwanted break from riding due to a surgery in 2023, that first ride was so impactful. The freedom, the accomplishment, the true joy of being back on a bike was a complete release. I went on an adventure ride with my husband and we had just gotten off the pavement onto gravel and I had to pull over for just a moment. The tears of joy running down my face needed a tissue.
🔥 My dirt bike lets me play with something so light to pick up so I can learn new skills.
🔥 My adventure bike takes me to places you don’t see from the highway. It shows me hawks that watch as I go by and deer that lead the way. It takes me close up to see how this year’s crop look and I can wave at the farmers as they work to feed us all.
🔥 My sport bike takes me far and wide, with an awesome rumble, and usually ice cream or a burger along the way.”

This week is the 75th annual Canadian Mental Health Association’s “Mental Health Week” in Canada.
Hawk Motorsports is a strong supporter of mental health; when you put your helmet on and go for a ride, it’s your time to escape the stresses of life and feel free.
Riding is a great way to boost your mental health. Being active, spending time outside with family and friends, and the physical activity of riding - all contribute to positive effects on your mental health and can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Riding can release those “feel good” hormones known as endorphins which help to relax your mind and make you feel happier.
