We are so excited to have Whitney join our staff at IDA.

Whitney began dancing at the age of six and has been passionate about it ever since. She started competing at a young age and has trained in a variety of styles, including jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, and pointe.

Throughout her competitive dance career, Whitney has developed not only strong technical skills but also a love for performing and inspiring others. Dance has taught her confidence, discipline, and perseverance all qualities she hopes to pass on to every student she teaches.

Outside of the studio, Whitney recently graduated from high school and is attending university to pursue her post-secondary education in Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is excited to begin this new chapter while continuing to share her love of dance with the next generation.

Whitney is thrilled to be part of the teaching staff and can’t wait to help each dancer grow in both skill and confidence. She looks forward to creating a positive, encouraging environment where every student feels supported and inspired to do their best.

We are so excited to announce IDA Students Abigail Auger and Eilyn Spooner have been chosen as this year’s Clara’s, Rosalie Middleton as Chuckles the Bear, Alexandra Knudsen as Snow Queen, and Lisa Auger as Mother for our community Nutcracker being held at Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on December 11th and 12th. And many other students will be part of this wondrous production.

For many of our adult students (18+), adult dance classes are their escape.
The technique, the artistry, the music, the movement—it brings them back to themselves. And what they’re feeling in the room is backed by science: research in movement and brain health suggests that dance can help sharpen cognition, support memory, and improve social engagement—key protective factors often linked with maintaining brain function as we age. Because dancing is more than “exercise,” it’s a whole brain workout: it requires rhythm processing, coordination, learning steps, and staying mentally present all at once. In other words, it trains skills that may help keep dementia at bay or slow its impact.
