Can’t decide on socks or boots? Hopefully this helps!
Boots excel at providing a reinforced and durable insulator for your feet, however the rubber sole and zippers restrict ankle mobility and allow water to flush in to the boot respectively. Few fins are designed with a large enough foot pocket to take the boots, so consider this before committing to a pair of fins or boots, and always try them on together before buying.
If ease of access into the water from the beach is your primary concern, boots may be your best bet.
Where socks lack durability, they make up for in warmth, comfort and offer specialized fin pairings. For example, long fins are only designed to be worn with a barefoot or with socks.
Careful dive site selection and avoiding barnacles helps increase the life of your socks.
