A Special Day at VPC
This past weekend, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the South Island Ravens to VPC for an afternoon of pickleball, food, laughs, and learning the game with members of the Orcas.
The South Island Ravens provide opportunities for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Greater Victoria to learn, play, and experience everything that comes with being part of a hockey team. What started with just a small group of players in 2012 has grown into an incredible community of athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers.
For a few hours, hockey sticks were traded for pickleball paddles, and it was hard to tell who was having more fun. There were plenty of rallies, lots of laughs, great food, and even better company.
A huge thank you to Save-On-Foods on McCallum Road for generously donating hot dogs, buns, and drinks for everyone, and to the Orcas members who brought hamburgers, buns, drinks, and helped make the afternoon such a great experience.
One of our favourite moments of the day was exchanging jerseys with the Ravens. Their jersey will now be proudly displayed at VPC as a reminder of a pretty special afternoon and the new friendships made along the way.
Thank you to the South Island Ravens, their players, families, coaches, and volunteers for spending the day with us. We loved having you at VPC and hope this is only the first of many days together.
