✋Teaching Through Touch: A Hands-On Assists Training for Yoga Instructors with YuMee Chung July 10/11/12 WEEKEND ✋

COURSE DURATION: 16 in-class hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Hands-on assists are an important part of the yoga teacher’s toolkit. Skillful touch communicates volumes about the form and essence of each yoga pose while establishing a safe learning environment and building trust with students.
Assisting with clarity and compassion not only benefits students but it also enlivens your experience as a teacher and expands your ability to serve the people in your classes as unique individuals with diverse needs.

During this intimate and in-depth training, you will learn the value of hands-on teaching rooted in consent. You will assist yoga poses that are common to a number of yoga traditions, explore ways to personally embody the principles of steadiness and sweetness, and develop confidence in your own individual approach to touch.

You will learn how to:

* assist standing poses (including balancing poses), seated forward bends, twists, backbends, basic inversions, vinyasa flow and savasana; * assess the physical and energetic alignment of asanas;

* develop a sensitive, grounded, and effective touch;

* protect yourself from injury and preserve your own vitality by using props and techniques for leveraging your own body weight.

You will cultivate your skills in a practical, hands-on environment where you will watch, photograph and make notes on detailed demonstrations before giving and receiving touch with partners of different shapes and sizes.

This Teacher Training weekend can be done as a stand alone training to enhance your teaching skillset or as an elective towards our One Love Yoga & Wellness 300 hour ~ Advanced ~ Personal Development & Yoga Teacher Training.

💗 A little more about Jen:

Fostering community, transformation, and love, Jen is an experienced and dedicated yoga teacher known for her dynamic, multi-level Vinyasa classes. Her thoughtfully crafted sequences support students in exploring their personal path while building strength, awareness, and connection.

Her teaching invites both playfulness and presence, encouraging students to move with intention and authenticity.

Jen has been based in Whitby, Ontario for the past five years. Prior to that, she spent over a decade living and teaching in Mexico, where she led classes, workshops, and retreats. She is fluent in Spanish and brings a global perspective to her teaching. A lifelong student, Jen has trained in Vinyasa, Hatha, Mindfulness, Bhakti, and Pre- and Post-natal yoga, with studies spanning Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and India.

Downward Facing Dog Pose is both the yogi’s best friend and the practice of a lifetime. It is simultaneously familiar and endlessly fascinating. Join YuMee for a 2-hour workshop on the art of flowing in and out of Downward Facing Dog Pose.

We will demystify the biomechanics of a functional and sustainable Downward Dog before exploring in detail the skills of stepping/jumping forward to stand and floating through to sit in the most common Downward Dog Flow sequences. Ideal for all levels including absolute beginners!

The 3rd Challenge Pose Vinyasa Class Theme is: CROW POSE (and variations!)

In my weekly Monday 6:30 pm Multi Flow Yoga ~ we are getting creative with a ‘Challenge Pose’ Vinyasa THEME in May!

Each Monday in May - we’ll break down key elements to a new, fun and funky pose! We aren’t so interested in the pose itself or how it’s expressed - but the mobility, strength and flexibility components needed to get there!

Sooo many options and variations will be offered - and we will have a blast putting it ALL TOGETHER! THIS IS AN ALL LEVELS CLASS ALWAYS!

🗓️ Monday, May 25th is Crow Pose! The goal is not the pose itself - but the building blocks! We’ll prime the core with breath and The Corgeous Balls, explore Chatturanga isometrics to create the shape of our base and add a dose of fun and playfulness ~ you might even take flight!

You DO NOT have to have a hand/forearm balancing practice to enjoy this class…(we’ll even try out Crow Pose on our backs! 🙃) You’l also learn baby crow! (No wrist weight bearing in that variation!)
