And heâs off! Our Nigel has just set off on this yearâs Lakeland 100, a 100 mile ultra marathon in the Lake District.
Only half of those starting the race will make it to the finish line, but this isnât his first rodeo and we anticipate seeing him again in approximately 30 hours! A truly incredible feat of strength and endurance, both mental and physical.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT đȘ - RACHEL
Meet Rachel.
At 51, Rachel joined The Angry Vegan looking for more than just exercise.
Like many women going through the menopause, she was dealing with weight gain, aching joints, poor focus and a loss of confidence. She wanted to feel like herself again. Better than that, she wanted to become a stronger, more focused version of herself.
After just a couple of months of training, sheâs already proving to herself whatâs possible.
Rachel regularly joins our Strong and Strength & Conditioning sessions and loves the fact that everyone is there for the same reason.
âNo posing in mirrors with phones. Just hardworking people encouraging each other to get better.â
She also admitted something else surprised herâŠ
âThe Angry Vegan himself. Heâs actually a nice friendly guy, despite the name! And Fran is so welcoming too.â đ
One of Rachelâs proudest achievements isnât a number on the scales or a dress size. Itâs simply turning up week after week and being consistent. Sheâs discovered she genuinely enjoys strength training and is lifting weights she never imagined she could.
The best compliment sheâs received?
Her five-year-old grandson told her he was glad she had âbig musclesâ because she could push him higher on the swings. We think thatâs worth more than any trophy. â€ïž
Outside the gym sheâs already noticing the difference. Clothes shopping feels easier, sheâs sleeping better, has more energy and can spend longer doing the things she loves with her family.
Looking ahead, Rachel has her sights set on lifting even heavier weights and finally saying goodbye to those âbingo wings.â
When sheâs not training youâll probably find her walking her dog, out hiking, reading a good book, enjoying afternoon tea and scones with her daughter, or relaxing on a sunny beach.
Rachelâs message to anyone thinking about joining is simple:
âEveryone has to start somewhere, so why not here? Weâre a friendly, welcoming bunch of like-minded people.â
Thank you for being part of our community, Rachel. đđ§Ą

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT đȘ - PHIL
Meet Phil.
Eight years ago, Phil walked through the doors of The Angry Vegan hoping to do something heâd never managed before.
Like many people, heâd joined commercial gyms in the past, only to stop going after six weeks and never return. This time, he wanted something different. He wanted to get fitter, stronger and, most importantly, find a routine he could stick to.
He admits he was both excited and apprehensive.
Eight years later, weâd say itâs worked.
Phil now trains in our PT sessions and Pump Club, and says the coaching is what keeps him coming back. Alongside that is the sense of community that comes from training in a small, private gym where people genuinely get to know one another.
One thing that surprised him was just how demanding the workouts were at first, and then how quickly his body adapted.
The numbers tell their own story.
When Phil started, his goal was to squat 100kg for 10 reps. Today, thatâs part of his warm-up. His current personal best is a 160kg back squat, around one and a half times his bodyweight.
His kettlebell journey has been just as impressive. He began with 12kg kettlebells and now trains confidently with 20kg bells, with his sights firmly set on competing in kettlebell sport using 24kg kettlebells for a full 10-minute set.
For Phil, though, the biggest achievements arenât measured in kilos.
He has more energy, sleeps better, feels more self-assured and says his mental health has never been stronger.
He believes one of the biggest strengths of The Angry Vegan is the coaching.
âThe coaches are brilliant. Theyâre incredibly knowledgeable and know exactly how much to challenge you. Thatâs a remarkable skill.â
His advice to anyone thinking about joining?
âThe framework is there for everyone to succeed, no matter who they are or where theyâre starting from. You just have to stick with it and be consistent.â
Thank you for eight years of hard work, Phil. Hereâs to the next challenge and that 24kg kettlebell competition. đđ§Ą
