RACE REPORT - Sydmonton Hill Climb 4th October 2026

Sunday saw NHRC and Andover Wheelers conclude the 2026 racing season by teaming up at Sydmonton for the annual Hill Climb. Tackling half a mile of burning, maximal effort, it was a true test of grit—taking just over two minutes for some, and closer to four for others!
Another fantastic turnout made for an exciting atmosphere, with spectators lining the climb to cheer the riders on and spur them across the finish line.

In the men's event, Andover Wheelers' Max Webber powered up the climb to take a brilliant victory in 2:20.74. Jack Calvert of VC Venta securing 2nd place just eight seconds back in 2:28.74, while Mitchell Webber flew up the hill in 2:38.17 to round out the podium in third. Incredible riding from the top three! 💪
In the ladies event, Ellen Rham of GFTL was the fastest on the day, taking a superb win with a time of 3:06.47, and 11th overall.

Huge credit must go to everyone who pinned a number on. Hill climbs are famously short, sharp, and painful, making it an intimidating discipline to try. It takes real courage to step out of your comfort zone for a sufferfest like this, so thank you to everyone who overcame the nerves, and gave it a spin. Every single rider made the event a success.

Finally, a massive thank you to Michael, Alison, and the entire NHRC team for volunteering their time and putting on such a fantastic season finale.

🏆🏅ANDOVER WHEELERS LEAGUE RESULTS 🏅🏆

I am absolutely delighted with how the Andover Wheelers Time Trial League has gone this year. Huge thanks to everyone who helped me at the events with Timekeeping, Marshalling, Signs and Photography, I am very grateful for your help with making the evenings run so smoothly. And huge thanks to North Hants Road Club for sharing their fantastic courses with us!

Every rider deserves congratulations for pinning on a number and taking part, so well done everyone who raced. There is so much to be gained from participating in these events; meeting other riders and enjoying the social atmosphere at HQ, striving for a fast time around our courses, using the races as a training opportunity, or even just simply riding for the joy of being out on your bike. I am looking forward to setting out the Calendar for next year, and with your help make it even better than this year!

🏆 THRUXTON LEAGUE RESULTS 🏆

Firstly, I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one of you who raced at my Thruxton Time Trials. Whether you rode one event, or all five, your support is so very much appreciated, and I am really happy to be able to provide the opportunity for you to race on a Closed Circuit at Thruxton. RACE REPORT - Candovers TT Thurs 3rd September 2026

The final race in the Andover Wheelers 2026 League was held on Thursday on the beautiful Candovers course. It was a surprisingly warm evening, despite the low sun, and a South West wind direction got everyone anticipating a slog along the valley into a headwind. Out on the course though it didn't feel too bad, probably because I was grateful for the few miles of flat after the hill to start!

This was the second half of the Interclub Competition between Andover Wheelers and North Hants Road Club, both clubs had good keen teams on the Start Line which made for a great race. Wheelers just having the edge on the night and taking the win, congratulations to both teams for a great effort, it's so good to have an element of friendly competition to keep us on our toes.

I would like to sincerely thank North Hants Road Club for a successful second year of sharing races with Andover Wheelers. It is fantastic to have the opportunity to include NHRC's excellent road courses within our Calendar, and having the two clubs meeting up for the racing makes it all a good social of an evening. I really appreciate the effort that goes into setting up the races so huge thanks to Michael and Alison, plus the NHRC team for setting out the signs, marshalling, and timekeeping.

Well done to Max Webber and Danny Legg, fantastic riding from both of you with only 5 seconds in it. Max just taking the win in 22:10, and Danny very close in 2nd with 22:15. Nigel Pratt taking 3rd place in a swift 23:19.

FINAL INTERCLUB RESULT;
The Candovers score added up with the Red Rice result from back on 16th June gives the overall 2026 win to Andover Wheelers! Fantastic riding from everyone involved, thank you all so much for your support and participation.

RACE REPORT - Thruxton 26th August 2026

The light just fading into a beautiful sunset as Mike and I were finalising the results reminded me that this fantastic summer is drawing ever closer to autumn, and with only Candovers TT next week, and the Hill Climb remaining of the Andover Wheelers 2026 League, I took a moment to reflect on what has been a brilliant League so far.

Firstly I'd like to sincerely thank every single rider who has supported the Club by entering our Time Trials. Your enthusiasm for the racing is what drives us on to organise these events, and it is so rewarding to have a fantastic turnout and see everyone having a great evening. One of the things I love about Time Trials is that it doesn't matter what your ability, or what your goal for the evening is, we are all there with a shared love of riding bikes!

And then on to last night's Race;

This was the final Thruxton event of 2026 and I was absolutely delighted to have 67 riders on the Startsheet!

It seemed to be great conditions out on the course, a warm gentle breeze helping a number of riders to a Course PB, well done to everyone who bettered their Thruxton time what a great way to end the racing season.

Rob Francis of Team Bottrill Nopinz flying round in a phenomenal 19:22 to take the win (potentially a Course Record? I definitely need to investigate if that is!) and Ollie Peckover of Trainsharp Roman RT in an incredible 19:40, absolutely fantastic riding both of you! George King of VC Venta in 3rd with an excellent 20:53 on his Road Bike. For the Andover Wheelers Podium we had Max Webber with 21:42, Nigel Pratt with 22:16 and Neil Adlem in 22:54. Really well done all!

Nine ladies made for great competition in this category, Caroline Nottage of Army Cycling taking the win with an impressive 25:34, well done! Only two seconds separated Kym Harvey of ...a3CRG and Janine Pattison of Poole Wheelers who came in 2nd and 3rd with a 26:08 and 26:10 respectively.

As always, fantastic riding from everyone, well done! And huge thanks to everyone who helps me on the night to run the event smoothly, really appreciate you all.

Final Thruxton of 2026 and Candovers Interclub !

Wednesday 26th August 1900 is the final opportunity to race at Thruxton Circuit so don't miss it!

This is the grand finale where the winner of the Thruxton League will be decided!

Only £12 per Rider which is a bargain for racing on a Closed Circuit!

Thursday 3rd September is the Interclub for some friendly rivalry with NHRC. It's on the beautiful Candovers course, let's have an excellent Wheelers turnout for that one 💪🏻

RACE REPORT & PHOTOS - LUDGERSHALL 11th August 2026

The beautiful summer heatwave of 2026 continues, with a field of 21 riders out at Ludgershall for what is my favourite of the Wheelers' TT courses. I hope that you have all seen the Results online on Resultsheet, I am so pleased that we as a Club are able to make use of that excellent online facility for sharing the results so promptly after the race. Oliver Peckover of TrainSharp dodging the Penton/Charlton potholes in 20:24 to take the win, with Andover Wheelers' Max Webber and Nigel Pratt taking 2nd and 3rd with 22:18 and 22:59 respectively. Neil Adlem completing the Wheelers' Podium in 23:30. Fantastic riding guys!

In the Ladies; Chris Murray of Wattshop flew round in 24:19 to take 1st Place, with myself in 2nd in 26:41. A very close battle indeed for 3rd Place between Andover Wheelers' Sonja Gailer and Gina Graham - with Sonja just beating Gina by 1 second to take 3rd Place in 29:08 ! What exciting competition!

Absolutely fantastic riding by every single competitor, I hope you all had an enjoyable evening, it was so good to see you all there and I appreciate your support of the Racing, so a huge thank you to all riders. Also incredibly grateful to everyone who helped out - Mike and Sarah Webber and Nick Cooper timekeeping, and all the Marshalls - Adam Daly, Paul Daley, Gary Parmenter, Rob Melhuish.

The post-race Club Social BBQ was well attended and enjoyed, huge thanks to Dave Sloan for hosting and providing us with a lovely location and spread of food and drink. Very much appreciated.
