After last weeks disappointing exit in the NOT to St James we looked to get back to winning ways against DUSC in the league. The game was put in doubt somewhat after Thursday and Fridays bad weather but with the pitch passing a late pitch inspection we were good to go.
We flew out the traps in the early stages and were continually first to every loose ball, our bright start was rewarded with a goal when GIERADA turned his man smartly from a throw and finished well, the young man taking his opportunity from the start to continue his fine form. We continued to dominate and were playing some fine stuff and should’ve doubled our lead on more than one occasion. The defining period of the game came in the 25th minute when the referee pointed to the spot to award DUSC a penalty. It was Scott Clarks moment to step up and step up he did, saving well with the initial penalty and even better to deal with the rebound, after it was cleared we raced up the pitch and after some good play the ball fell to WOOD on the rebound and he stuck it home. All round great play from all parts of the pitch, a superb team goal. We looked to have put the game beyond doubt with another great team goal, this time Duff and Wood combined to release MITCHELL and he made no mistake to grab his 8th goal for the club in just his 4th start. The opposition pulled one back just before the half to bring the contest back alive.
HT - Ammo’s 3 - 1 DUSC
The message at half time was to look for more goals but keep a second half clean sheet, we completed the first part just minutes into the second half. More excellent play from the forward line of Nairn, Mitchell and Wood set up a chance that was saved well by the goalie, after a poor clearance the ball fell to HORNER and he drove a thunderous strike low and hard that the keeper was no match for. At 4-1 the game was beyond doubt as we managed things very well, we could’ve had a couple more if it was not for some good goalkeeping from DUSC’s number 1. At points throughout the game there was some curious refereeing which affected both sides, questioning this found both members of the management team in the referee’s book. The game was capped off with a bizarre moment where DUSC’s number 8 found himself clean through goal despite being a number of yards offside, this goal finished off the scoring at 4-2.
FT: Ammo’s 4 - 2 DUSC
Much better performance all round yesterday, on and off the ball, no doubt aided by the return of captain Ross Patterson after suspension, great to see him back on the pitch. MOTM voting in the pub was split between 3 players; Oscar Gierada, Scott Clark and Ross Patterson. In the end Scott Clark was given the award after his defining penalty save and all round excellent performance.
Away from the pitch the club celebrated the birthday of chief motivator and regular beaming light of positivity Scott Nairn, arabest Scott!
The club would also like to congratulate Louie Richard Bolton on his victory in the Arbroath and District pool league Challenge trophy yesterday, his knee might be wrecked but he’s still a much loved member of the club!
Next up it’s a big one as we face Carnoustie panmure who sit second in the league.
