After a prolonged delay thanks to the weather, Men’s Own RFC are finally back in action this weekend! 🙌

We’re hitting the road for our next away fixture against Stewarts & Lloyds RFC in Corby.

🥾❤️ ONE OF OUR OWN IS TAKING ON A MASSIVE CHALLENGE! ❤️🥾

Our Co-Secretary Laura Crandley is swapping the clubroom for the Coast to Coast as she takes on an incredible 190 miles over 13 days, with a whopping 28,000ft of elevation!

And if you know Laura, you'll know one important fact…

She REALLY doesn't like hills! 😂

Laura is taking on this challenge in memory of two very special people — Simon Evans, who sadly passed away in April 2024, and Anne Sale, much-loved wife of Brian, who passed away in October 2022.

Laura is raising money for two charities close to their hearts: Bowel Cancer UK and The Air Ambulance Service. ❤️

In Laura's own words:

"I love them both — so two people for me to swear at when it hurts!" 😂

The walk takes place 5–17 September, so she’ll soon be putting those boots to the test!

She has already raised £755 towards her £2,000 target, but we’d love to see the club community get behind her and help push that total even higher. 🙌

PARKRUN FOR A CAUSE – THIS SATURDAY ❤️

This Saturday, 5th September at 9am, one of our members, Piotr will be taking on the Upton Parkrun (Northampton/Sixfields) to raise funds for a university friend who has sadly been diagnosed with an aggressive Stage 4 glioma (brain cancer).

Piotr has already raised over £2,500 for local charities, including the Frank Bruno Foundation and several autism charities, and this will be his final fundraising effort.
He’d love some support from the club and village — whether you're running, walking, or simply cheering him on! 🙌

🇬🇧🇵🇱 Piotr's friend's brother will also be taking part in his local Parkrun in Poland, so they'll be running together in spirit.

We're incredibly proud to celebrate former Mens Own RFC junior, jacobincee , and everything he's has achieved in the game.

Starting his rugby journey with us at just 4 years old, Jacob went on to enjoy huge success in Canada, winning championships with his club, school and university, as well as becoming a National Champion with the Province of Ontario.

Now representing Team Canada, Jacob is pushing for a place in the 2027 Rugby World Cup squad and has recently featured in internationals against Spain, Portugal and Zimbabwe, including earning his first senior international cap for Canada. Next up is a four-week tour of Japan with three more Test matches.

Everyone at the club is incredibly proud to see you achieving everything you have in the game, and we’re delighted to have played even a small part in your journey to the international stage.

We're all proud of you, Jacob. Once an Own, always an Own! 💙🤍

As many of you will be aware, Paul Hughes, affectionately known to many as "Spit", sadly passed away recently.

Please find attached the funeral arrangements for Paul.

Spit was a valued member of Mens Own RFC, representing the club as both a player and a coach. He was part of the coaching team behind the last Mens Own side to win the Alliance Cup, defeating Bugbrooke in the final at Franklin's Gardens.

Our thoughts remain with Paul's family and friends at this difficult time. Anyone wishing to pay their respects is welcome to attend the funeral using the details attached.

💪 Pre-season is underway... and it's been a great start!

The hard work has begun with fantastic numbers at training and plenty of energy and enthusiasm already on show. It's great to see both familiar faces and new ones getting stuck in as we build towards the new season.

We're always looking to strengthen the squad, so if you've ever thought about giving rugby a go, now's the perfect time. Whether you're an experienced player or completely new to the game, you'll be made to feel welcome.
