Why “Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester” Might Be the Most Important Class You Take
When we think about preparing for a baby, most of the focus tends to be on birth.
Birth plans. Hospital bags. Breathing techniques.
But what happens after your baby arrives?
For many parents, that’s where the real surprise begins.
The Missing Piece in Birth Preparation
The early weeks after birth—often called the fourth trimester—are a time of huge transition. Your baby is adjusting from life in the womb to the outside world, while you are recovering physically, emotionally, and mentally as you step into Parenthood
Yet this stage is often overlooked in traditional antenatal education.
Parents frequently leave birth preparation classes feeling ready for labour—but not for the reality of caring for a newborn.
That’s exactly why “Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester” exists.
Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester
This class is practical at its core—because that’s what parents really need.
You’ll learn essential newborn care skills such as:
Feeding your baby responsively
Understanding newborn sleep
Bathing, nappy changing, and skin care
Cord care and early health checks
But it goes deeper than that.
You’ll also explore:
Skin-to-skin bonding and why it matters
Postnatal recovery and self-care
Working as a team with your companion
What’s normal (and what’s not)
These are the things that make the difference at 2am—when Google isn’t helpful and confidence matters most.
Confidence Changes Everything
One parent shared that before attending the class, they had never even held a baby—but afterwards, they felt confident caring for their newborn.
That’s the real goal.
Not perfection. Not rigid routines.
Just confidence.
Because when you feel confident:
You trust your instincts
You respond to your baby with ease
You enjoy those early weeks more
You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone
One of the biggest challenges of early parenthood is the feeling that you’re suddenly on your own.
This class changes that.
It provides not only knowledge, but reassurance, guidance, and ongoing support—so you’re not left second-guessing yourself.
As the course philosophy puts it: you deserve to feel supported and empowered as you begin this journey.
A Gentle, Empowering Start to Parenthood
“Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester” isn’t just another antenatal class.
It’s preparation for real life with your baby.
It’s about:
Feeling calm instead of overwhelmed
Prepared instead of unsure
Supported instead of alone
Because birth is just the beginning.
And how you feel in those early weeks matters—more than most people realise.
At Nurture Births, our aim is not to create perfect parents—it is to help you feel informed, reassured, and confident in your own decisions.
Why Take a Fourth Trimester Class?
Many new parents tell us they felt prepared for birth but unsure about what came afterwards.
Questions often arise:
How much should my newborn sleep?
How do I know if my baby is feeding well?
What is normal newborn behaviour?
How do I care for my baby’s cord and skin?
How can I support myself after birth?
At Nurture Births, our aim is not to create perfect parents—it is to help you feel informed, reassured, and confident in your own decisions.
Preparing for Parenthood Beyond Birth: Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester
When expecting a baby, many parents spend months preparing for labour and birth.
You may attend antenatal classes, write a birth plan, and prepare your hospital bag—but what happens when you bring your baby home?
The first few weeks after birth can be exciting, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming. This period, known as the fourth trimester, is a huge transition for both parents and babies.
At Nurture Births, our Baby and You in the Fourth Trimester class helps expectant parents across Northern Ireland feel confident, supported, and prepared for life with a newborn.
This is all too true!

Newborn babies feed ALOT!!!
It's normal. They feed themselves in the womb every 90 mins.
When they are born they don't feed often in the first 24hrs but...
That changes on day 2 to 3.
You need to watch your baby NOT the clock!!
