Today I had a lactate threshold test, I want to run faster and the results of this test I think will help…

The phrase “professional/amateur” gets branded around more these days, reference to Amateur athletes getting access to professional training programs & equipment.

A lactate threshold test a number of years ago would have been reserved for those only going to the olympics now for an affordable price any runner can have it tested and today it was my turn.

The test itself is simple: you start on the treadmill at an easy pace to establish a baseline, then every 4 minutes the speed increases. At each stage, a small blood sample is taken from the ear to measure lactate levels until you reach exhaustion.

The testers are brilliant — the service is doctor-led, so you feel confident and reassured that the results are accurate and professionally delivered.

If you want to train smarter, pace better and perform better, this is something worth doing.

The new air conditioning system absolutely blew me away today.❄️❄️❄️

We’ve invested in the latest setup, super modern, energy efficient, and designed to keep the whole gym feeling incredible all year round. Switching it on today properly all systems go … was one of those moments where all the planning and investment felt worth it.

I know… I get far too excited about this sort of stuff 🤓

Back in the winter, it felt like a massive call, but on days like today, you realise exactly why we did it.

Cheshire 10k — 38:21 this morning 😄

That was a tough day in the office. I came here chasing a PB, targeting sub-36:30 on what was the perfect course to do it — flat, fast, no wind, bright sunshine. Proper conditions 😎

But after about 400m I already knew the legs were empty… and then it hits you: 10k of getting your head kicked in.

At 1km I genuinely thought about quitting and hopping over the fence. After all, this was meant to be a family holiday 😂 Then out of the corner of my eye I’m sure I spotted my old cycling coach Shane Sutton. Typical, the exact day I’m thinking of DNF’ing and he’s there to witness it 🤣

So I went back to basics. Relax the arms. Control the breathing. Settle down. And like magic, everything did. Ended up really enjoying the run.

Tried to find Shane afterwards because it would’ve been great to say hello.

Anyway… another one ticked off ✅ Two weeks to Swansea Half, and I’ve also booked the Tonypandy track races 😎

Oh… and Billie by the way is on another level 🔥
