IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL STUDENTS

I want to address something openly because I’m aware that certain people outside PPG Training UK have been contacting students and expressing opinions about me, our training methods and the equipment we recommend.

Let me make one thing very clear: I have absolutely no problem with anybody questioning me. In fact, I encourage students to ask questions.

But there is a big difference between an opinion and a fact.

If somebody tells you that something we teach, recommend or supply is wrong or unsafe, ask them to back it up with proper evidence — manufacturer documentation, certification, technical information or something independently verifiable.

Facts will always carry more weight with me than flying-field gossip.

Why we support Sky Paragliders

Some comments have also been made about our support for Sky Paragliders, so it’s worth putting this into perspective.

Sky is not some new or unknown company. Its heritage in paragliding dates back to 1988, making it one of the longer-established manufacturers in the sport. The company has decades of experience developing and manufacturing paragliders.

We support Sky because I believe in their equipment, their manufacturing standards and, importantly, because their wings fit extremely well with our training philosophy.

At PPG Training UK, the wing comes first.

Before I care about getting somebody under power, I want them to understand their wing, control it properly, recognise what it is doing and demonstrate consistent forward and reverse launches.

That is why some students may spend considerably longer on ground handling than they would elsewhere.

We don’t measure successful training by how quickly we can get somebody’s feet off the ground. We measure it by the pilot we’re producing at the end of the process.

There will always be different manufacturers, different instructors and different opinions in aviation. Ozone, Sky and many other manufacturers produce equipment with different characteristics, and pilots will naturally develop their own preferences.

What we will not accept is somebody turning personal preference into a technical claim without evidence.

If another pilot tells you something concerning about your equipment or training, come directly to me. Ask me the difficult question. Give me the opportunity to explain why we do something and show you the information behind it.

And if somebody can genuinely demonstrate, with proper evidence, that something we’re doing can be improved, I’ll listen. That’s how standards improve.

But PPG Training UK will never lower its training standards simply because another group gets somebody airborne faster.

Our philosophy remains exactly the same:
