A heatwave, a solar eclipse and a competitive game of football! ☀️🌑⚽️

Our U10s were in action tonight as we came to the end of our 6-week block focused on creating the attack.

It was fantastic to see so many of the principles we’ve worked on in training come alive in the game, with plenty of overlapping runs, underlapping runs and players finding different ways to affect and challenge defenders.

Game nights are so valuable for putting those training scenarios into a match environment and seeing the players apply what they’ve learned.

A great way to finish the block! 👏⚽️

One of the questions I get asked a lot as a professional footballer is:

“How do I judge my child’s development?”

A lot of parents naturally look at goals, assists and the final scoreline — but what if we started paying more attention to the smaller details?

Things like:

⚽️ Decision-making
⚽️ Movement off the ball
⚽️ Scanning and awareness
⚽️ Confidence to receive the ball
⚽️ Passing and combination play
⚽️ Defensive effort
⚽️ How they respond after making a mistake
⚽️ Communication with teammates
⚽️ Their willingness to try things and learn

Development isn’t always about the numbers on the scoresheet.

Sometimes the biggest progress can be found in the small details that don’t show up in the stats.
