En Pointe Theatre Arts is a professional dance school based in Cardiff for students ages 2.5 to adult. The school is established and run by Danielle Emms, RAD RTS, PBT Certified Teacher, ISTD Register Teacher. En Pointe Theatre Arts provides students with a dance education informed by Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics and neurodynamics. Miss Danielle strives to create a positive experience for the students she teaches whilst encouraging them to meet their personal best in technique and artistry through dance. The school offers students opportunities to participate in examinations with the RAD in Ballet pre-pointe classes, pointe classes, ISTD Modern, ISTD Tap and ISTD Contemporary Dance styles ensuring students have a well rounded dance education. Whether the students decide they want a career in dance or to dance for enjoyment, it is important to Miss Danielle this is achieved in a safe and informed enviroment. There is also the option for students to undertake one to one lessons if they wish to improve their technique further or for extra exam coaching.

This is who established and runs En Pointe Theatre Arts … 🩰✨

As a toddler, Miss Danielle ran around like a “box monster” and “sock monkey”, exploring the world from a place of curiosity and adventure, to a tiny “butterfly ballerina”, “tiny tap dancer”, and a “modern lizard”.

Finding belonging in nursery and school was a challenge; she was shy and quiet. However, dance provided a place to belong, building confidence, creativity and curiosity.

As Miss Danielle grew, she turned quiet focus into an elite athletic discipline, participating in Irish Dancing competitions across the United Kingdom, which shocked everyone around her.

Today, Miss Danielle owns En Pointe Theatre Arts, providing a supportive, nurturing, positive community environment that offers elite-level training to everyone wishing to pursue excellence in technique and performance, for the quiet and more confident dancers alike.

En Pointe Theatre Arts is home to four distinct divisions to suit the requirements of the individual dancer:

🧸 Pre-School division: for young boys and girls ages 2 to 4 years, stepping into the magic of dance for the first time

🩰 Adult division for adults over 18 of all abilities looking to explore dance for the first time or return to dance and improve their technical and artistic performance.

🧑‍🩰Recreational Examination syllabus division offering students ages 4.5+, with classes in ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, and national, along with progressing ballet technique and body conditioning classes.

✨High-performance vocational division for dancers wishing to pursue a professional dance career through full-time training for ages 8 through 18, with a high focus on classical ballet training.

Benefits of tap for children ages 3 and over ✨

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, putting on tap shoes at a young age offers numerous benefits for young children's cognitive, physical and social development.

When choosing an activity for your young child, your focus isn't just on passing the time. Instead, it focuses on your child's development, helping them grow into an independent, curious, and confident young person who is free to express their individuality and utilise their own voice.

When young boys and girls explore our ISTD Pre-Primary tap classes, they are building four developmental milestones:
🎶 Rhythm and musicality
🥁 Understanding dynamics
✨ Fine and gross motor skill development
🌈 Peer collaboration, teamwork and leadership

Young dancers Ruby and Esmae in their ISTD Pre-Primary Tap class showcased leadership skills as they took on a challenge from mentor Miss Danielle: teaching student assistant teachers Isabelle and Seren their exercises to see what they could remember after the August break.

Both Esmae and Ruby stepped up to the challenge with confidence and showcased their knowledge of their syllabus work. But that is not all they demonstrated; they also showed leadership, teamwork, communication, self-belief, confidence, and self-efficacy skills which can be utilised outside of the studio.

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, we keep class sizes to no more than 12 dancers, ensuring individualised attention and feedback. We create an environment for dancers to excel in technique and performance through structured teaching and learning.

ISTD Pre-Primary Tap classes are excellent for introducing boys and girls aged 3 to 5 to the foundations of tap technique, where they explore basic rhythms and dynamic qualities while developing coordination and active listening skills.

ISTD Pre-Primary Tap classes take place on Saturdays from 11:15 - 11:45 at Pontprennau Primary School

Saturday spotlight: Student Assistant Teachers 🩷

En Pointe Theatre Arts is proud to offer our students the opportunity to undertake an assistant teacher qualification with Future Dance Teachers. There are 4 levels, and upon successful completion of each one, students receive CPD points.

Today, during a quiet few minutes in the studio, our Level 1 Future Dance Teacher, Seren, who also undertakes training in Royal Academy of Dance Grade 2 and Grade 3 ballet, ISTD Grade 2 Tap, and ISTD Grade 2 Modern incorporating contemporary at En Pointe Theatre Arts, took our new student assistant, Isabelle, through our studio rules. Isabelle is also a student at En Pointe Theatre Arts, training in Royal Academy of Dance Grade 1 and Grade 2 ballet, ISTD Grade 2 modern incorporating contemporary, and ISTD Grade 1 Tap.

It is wonderful to see the next generation of dancers curious about teaching and genuinely enjoying assisting in the younger dancers' classes. At the same time, they are improving their own confidence, leadership skills, communication, self-efficacy, self-belief, teamwork, and collaboration.

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, we welcome dancers from age 2 through adulthood who want to discover a love of dance. However, starting a new activity can feel scary, creating hesitation as yas you wonder whether the new environment is right for your dancer, whether you'll find belonging, or if you will be behind.

It is like getting a flat car tyre unexpectedly: your momentum drops, and you are stuck exactly where you are.

Life is a journey, a journey of learning, discovery and curiosity. How do we know whether we truly enjoy something or not without trying? It takes courage to try something new, which helps us find belonging and community.

However, when you find the courage to try and discover a love of dance in a supportive environment where you can belong, momentum builds, along with confidence, self-esteem, and self-efficacy.

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, we offer two-week paid taster sessions, so you can try our classes without a long-term commitment. This lets children, teens, and adults experience our dance studio environment, class structure, and professional training standards before committing to regular monthly fees.

ISTD Primary Tap Classes for ages 6+ ✨

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, our Tap classes are about more than just rhythm. 🎶

Tap improves children's:

💜 Rhythm and Musicality - develops children's active listening skills so they understand different dynamic qualities such as loud and quiet, and fast and slow. Children use whole notes, quarter notes, and half notes within ISTD Primary tap, which develops into more complex rhythms as they progress.

🩷 Confidence is built by mastering new movement patterns, performing different rhythms, and performing combinations on their own.

🩵Independence - developed through following instructions, applying feedback, problem-solving, and achieving tap steps like shuffle paradiddles and stamps.

Children are taught correct tap technique in a small class environment of up to 12 dancers, ensuring individualised attention and helping them progress at their own rate.

By following the ISTD syllabus for tap, children are provided with a structured framework within which to progress and achieve excellence in tap technique and performance, with tap classes available at En Pointe Theatre Arts for children from age 3, commencing with the ISTD Pre-Primary Tap syllabus. Children are invited to participate in examinations when they achieve the desired standard, both in performing the work independently with confidence and in demonstrating a high standard of technical proficiency.

ISTD Primary Tap classes take place on Saturdays from 1:30-2:15 at Pontprennau Primary School.

At En Pointe Theatre Arts, our four core values are the foundation of everything we do. This includes how we look after our dancers.

At our Pontprennau venue,, the entrance is fob-operated,, whichhelpss us maintain anenvironments free from external distraction,s, enabling our students toexcel intechniquee and performance as the focus is on training and building strong technical andartisticc foundations in a safeenvironmentnt.

The fob-operated doors mean students must wait outside with their parents until it is their class time, or they can message the school WhatsApp group to see if anyone is available to open the doors for them to enter. Because of this, it is important that our students arrive on time or 5 minutes early so we can start class on time.  

Within a safe, positive learning environment,t, dancers can develop new friendships, build confidence, explore their own creativity and imagination, be seen and heard, express their individuality, ty and find belonging.
