When a child walks into class for the very first time, they often don’t know anyone. For some children that’s exciting, for others it can feel a little daunting.

That’s why creating a welcoming environment is so important to us.

Our advanced students and team leaders do an amazing job of helping new children settle in. They introduce themselves, partner up for drills, offer encouragement and help them feel part of the class from day one.

As children train together each week, they build trust, learn to communicate, work as a team and often form friendships that extend beyond the dojo.

Martial arts isn’t just about learning techniques. It’s about belonging, building confidence and being part of a positive community.

If you have a child aged 4-11 years old who would benefit from building confidence, making friends and learning valuable life skills, we’d love to welcome them for 2 free taster lessons.

Send us a message to find out more. 🥋

A gentle reminder: you matter too.

Life gets busy, doesn't it?

Work, family, responsibilities, appointments... and before we know it, we've put ourselves at the bottom of the list again.

That's one of the reasons we offer Yin Yoga on Friday's 9.30AM.

It's not about being flexible or having experience. It's an opportunity to take an hour for yourself. To slow down, breathe, stretch, and give your mind and body a little care.

Angela creates such a welcoming and supportive environment, and we'd love more people in our Medway community to experience it for themselves.

That's why we're offering 2 free Yin Yoga sessions.

Maybe this is the gentle reminder you've been needing.

DM us to book your free taster sessions.

A few weeks after hip replacement surgery and Mary is already back doing what she loves... Tai Chi.

She still feels a little groggy from the anaesthetic at times, so today she joined us for seated Tai Chi. How amazing is that?

One of the things I love about Tai Chi is that it can be adapted to suit the individual. Whether you’re standing, seated, recovering from an operation, or need to take things at your own pace, you can still enjoy the benefits of movement, breathing, and being part of the group.

Mary’s determination and positive attitude are inspiring. Recovery isn’t always a straight line, but she continues to show up, do what she can, and keep moving forward.

I think she deserves a round of applause 👏 drop Mary some encouragement in the comments, i’m sure she’d love to read your messages 😊

What a fantastic Kung Fu Kids Seminar and Grading we had on Saturday 30th May!

Firstly, a massive congratulations to Yana on grading to Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt)!

Yana has been training at Shi Kon for around four and a half years and her dedication to Kung Fu has been incredible to watch. She attends her weekly lessons consistently, takes part in our monthly seminars and volunteers her time as one of our Team Leaders, helping and encouraging younger students.

At just 10 years old, Yana is one of the most committed young martial artists you could wish to meet. In fact, when her parents were looking at moving house, Yana was so devastated at the thought of having to leave Shi Kon that they decided to stay! I think that says everything about how much Kung Fu means to her.

A huge shout out to Yana's parents too. Thank you for supporting her every step of the way on her martial arts journey and for being just as committed to the club as she is. Behind every successful young martial artist is a family who supports them, and we are incredibly grateful for yours.

The seminar itself was another brilliant morning with a full class and everyone eager to get started.

Our main focus was developing the correct foot shape for effective kicking. The students worked in pairs, practising controlled kicks to each other's legs with the goal of making light contact only. This helped develop balance, control, focus and accuracy whilst encouraging students to think carefully about their technique.

We then moved on to coordination drills, practising kicks from both the front and back leg while switching stances smoothly and efficiently. The students worked hard throughout and showed excellent concentration.

We also spent time working through all of their forms, encouraging students to identify and correct their own footwork without instruction. This is such an important skill as it develops body awareness, confidence and the ability to feel where their feet are positioned rather than relying on looking down.

To finish the seminar, our awesome Team Leader Rayan organised a fun game that brought plenty of energy, teamwork and smiles to the end of the session.

The focus throughout the entire seminar was excellent and the teamwork on display was outstanding. Well done everyone!

A huge congratulations to all of our students who graded, received tags and certificate awards. Watching your progress month after month is one of the best parts of what we do. You are all developing brilliantly and I am incredibly proud of every single one of you.

⭐ Yana – Graded to 1st Dan Black Belt

⭐ Samir – Graded to Purple Belt

⭐ Lucas – Graded to Blue Belt

⭐ Olivia – Graded to Orange Belt

⭐ Louie – Graded to Red Belt

A special thank you to my assistant Lennon and Team Leader Rayan. These two are fantastic role models for our younger students and gave up their own time to come along and support the event. You were both excellent and your help never goes unnoticed.

Thank you also to Caz for taking the photographs. We know how much parents enjoy seeing these updates and they become wonderful memories to look back on as their children continue their martial arts journey. Thanks Caz!

Finally, thank you to all of our students and parents. Your support, commitment and enthusiasm are what make these events so special and why our seminars continue to be such a success.

The June kids seminar is already open to book, there are 3 spaces left. There won't be a seminar in July, but I will be running a special Kung Fu Kids Workshop on 26th August. Full details will be released very soon.

These events are always incredibly popular and spaces fill quickly, so once booking goes live, don't delay!

We can't wait to see you there.

I sit down with my student Carlo who trains in Tai Chi and Kung Fu at Shi Kon to discuss how martial arts helps him move away from analysing every detail and instead become more present and able to enjoy the process.

As a Crime Scene Investigator, his job requires attention to detail and critical thinking but training has taught him the value of balance and to allow things to unfold naturally.

A fascinating conversation about martial arts, mindset and growth.

The full interview is on our YouTube channel (link is in comments). Head over to watch it and if you enjoy it we’d love for you to subscribe, comment and support our channel.

Our young volunteers - Team Leaders and Assistant's are awesome!

One of the things that makes me incredibly proud of our club is the team behind the scenes helping our Kung Fu Kids every single week.

Alongside our instructors, we have 7 fantastic Team Leaders and 2 Young Assistants who volunteer their time in the children's classes to support them in class. They are an important part of what makes Shi Kon such a welcoming place to train.

It can feel a little daunting for any child to start something new. That's why our Team Leaders are there to help children settle in, answer questions, buddy up with them during lessons and give them encouragement when they need it. They help new students feel comfortable the moment they walk through the door and continue to support them as they grow in confidence and ability.

They lead by example, show kindness, patience and encouragement, and genuinely care about helping them succeed. We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated group of young people supporting our classes.

To all of our Team Leaders and Young Assistants, thank you. Your hard work never goes unnoticed and you make a real difference to the children who train with us every week.

🥋If you have a child aged 4-11 years old who would love to be part of a positive, supportive and welcoming martial arts community, we'd love to meet you.

Book your 2 FREE taster lessons and come and see what makes our club so special.

Random questions with Malak 😀

One of the nicest things about teaching Kung Fu to children is seeing their confidence grow. Children, just like Malak who were once very quiet suddenly find their voice, speak up, smile more and believe in themselves.

Plus you get to have conversations about Kung Fu animals and punch sound effects which is always a bonus 😂

Thank you for your time Malak 🌟
