Iโm always a fan of an exercise that works more than one area of the body and this is a good one ๐ช๐ป.
The Zercher Squat - you may never have heard of it or tried it before, but itโs a good one to mix up your training. Itโs a great exercise forโฆ
Improving strength in the back, core, legs and glutes. It also helps you to maintain an upright position, achieve a deeper squat and by your elbows coming down between your knee it will improve your knee and hip mechanics.
How do you do it;
- Stand with your feet slightly wider apart than you normally would for a squat.
- Hold the weight in the crease of your elbow, hug the bar as close to the body as possible.
- Keep your shoulders pulled back in good posture (donโt hold hands as this will round your shoulders inwards).
- Squat down, keeping your torso straight and let your elbows travel between the knees as you lower.
- Drive back up to your starting position.
It can feel uncomfortable in the crease of your elbows, if so, you can wear a long sleeve top, wear elbow protectors, put padding on the bar or just suck it up and get on with it ๐

Mark, I have an idea ๐ก letโs do a 2 day mountain biking route around the Gower, but letโs do it in 1 day!
Me, ๐ค hmmm that sounds ridiculous! OK, letโs go!!
So afterโฆ.
46 miles.
4,800ft of climbing.
Heat โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ
Lifting bike over stiles.
Paths full of boulders and potholes.
Many many climbs and descents.
A ridiculously steep climb.
Crashes (by me) ๐ค
Biking in sand and the sea.
Tiny overgrown paths full of stinging nettles ๐
A vegan magnum ice cream ๐ฑ๐
2 x beers ๐ป
I was completely broken!
But a day of mountain biking in a new place with good company, in the outdoors, exercising, great weather, amazing views and scenery, lots of laughs and memories = an amazing day!! ๐ช๐ป๐

Sometimes when you have a busy day, you just need to get up and get your workout done. I was out the door at 5am this morning and ran 13.84 miles in 1hr 49mins.ย With a 1hr 42min half marathon it was the fastest I have run that distance in quite a few years.ย I was very pleased! ๐ช๐ป๐
Was a very pleasant surprise to see my client Sarah walking to work. Although she did give me a look of why are you out at this ridiculous time!! ๐
