🏊 Tuesday Tip: Should we swim outside lessons?

YES! 💦

Recreational swimming is a brilliant way for children to spend more time in the water without the structure of a lesson.

Let them have fun, splash, explore and practise some of the skills they've been learning. Even simple things like blowing bubbles, floating, kicking or jumping in safely can help build water confidence.

It doesn't need to become another swimming lesson — sometimes simply having fun in the water is the best practice! 💙

Swimming isn’t just a lesson. It’s a life skill that could save a life.

Learning to swim helps children develop confidence, strength, coordination, and crucial water awareness — skills they carry far beyond the pool. At First Strokes, lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to help every child progress safely at their own pace.

💙 Confidence first. Technique next. Safety always.

As the wetter autumn and winter weather arrives, we’re asking everyone to help us keep our changing rooms clean, hygienic and safe for our swimmers.

Our swimmers — especially little ones — often walk around the changing rooms in bare feet, so outdoor shoes can quickly bring in mud, dirt and water from outside.

Before entering the changing rooms, please:

👟 Take outdoor shoes off
OR
🩵 Pop on the overshoes provided

It’s a small thing that makes a BIG difference in keeping our facilities clean and welcoming for everyone.

Thank you for helping us look after our pools and changing rooms! 💙⭐

👨‍👩‍👧 Tip for Parents

“Why isn’t my child moving up a stage?” 🏊‍♀️

Swimming progression isn’t just about being able to swim a certain distance. 💦

Before moving up, our teachers are looking for swimmers to demonstrate their skills consistently and confidently, with good technique and an understanding of important water safety skills. ⭐

Sometimes a child may be able to complete a skill once, but the goal is to make sure they can repeat it confidently before progressing.

Every stage builds the foundations for the next — strong foundations create strong swimmers! 💙
