Whether you're spending time with family, friends or your local community, don't forget to stay safe while enjoying this special event. If you're watching the eclipse, always use certified eclipse glasses or another approved viewing method—never look directly at the Sun.

Being in the peak summer holiday season, many families will be spending more time around pools, rivers, lakes and the coast. ☀️💦

Please take a few simple steps to stay safe around water:

Always supervise children closely
Choose lifeguarded swimming areas where possible
Never swim alone
Check the depth before entering the water
Keep away from unfamiliar or fast-moving water
Call 999 in an emergency and ask for the Coastguard when near the coast

A little extra care can help everyone enjoy the water safely this summer.

Our August Swimming Crash Courses are coming to Lonsdale Pool, with sessions available for children at different stages—from non-swimmers and beginners through to Stage 4+ improvers.

The five-day courses begin on Monday 17th August, with 30-minute lessons running each day to help children build confidence, improve their technique and make steady progress in the water.

Please note that these crash courses are available at Lonsdale Pool only. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

National Lifeguard Qualification is now available to book now at Lonsdale Pool.

Our National Pool Lifeguard Qualification – Gen 10 Plus AED course starts on Saturday 8th August 2026 at Lonsdale Swimming Pool.
This RLSS UK recognised qualification covers the essential skills, knowledge and practical training needed to work as a pool lifeguard, including AED training.

Course cost: £260, including assessment fees and course materials
Deposit: £60 to secure your place
Location: Lonsdale Swimming Pool, Mickleover, Derby

Candidates must be aged 16 or over before the course begins and meet the required swim fitness criteria.
