Another Fantastic Victory for Barnby Dun Ladies & Girls Softball Team! 🏏💙❤️

We are incredibly proud and absolutely delighted to report another well-earned victory for our amazing Barnby Dun Ladies & Girls Softball team, this time away at Wickersley Old Village CC.

Barnby Dun Ladies – 315/1
Wickersley Old Village Ladies – 307/3

What a match! Played on a beautiful sunny evening, with some dramatic dark clouds overhead, the conditions were just about perfect for cricket.

Wickersley won the toss and elected to bat first. It was immediately clear they had some experienced batters in their side, striking two huge sixes and numerous boundaries. Despite their impressive batting display, our ladies stayed focused in the field and restricted them to 307/3 thanks to some excellent bowling and fielding.

The first breakthrough came from Louisa, who produced one of her trademark deliveries to clean bowl the batter, sending the bails flying in spectacular fashion. Louisa was also involved in the second wicket, taking a superb catch on the boundary from Rachel's bowling. Rachel then claimed her second wicket of the innings with Shazza taking a safe catch behind the stumps. Backed up by some excellent fielding and very few misfields, the team worked tirelessly throughout the innings.

Our reply began with Chalky and Sahithi, who gave us the perfect start, scoring 25 runs. Both found the boundary with a four and, importantly, preserved both wickets. 👏

Chris and Shazza were next to the crease and continued the momentum, taking the total to 251. Chris struck two excellent boundaries and, once again, both wickets were safely preserved. 👏

Fi and Nettie followed, finishing their partnership with the score on 279. Fi added another boundary, and yet again the pair protected both wickets to keep the pressure firmly on Wickersley. 👏

It all came down to our final partnership of Rachel and Louisa. They got off to a flying start, hitting four boundaries in the opening over along with a couple of well-run singles. Rachel was unfortunately stumped in the second over, but responded in the best possible way by striking another two boundaries. The third over yielded just two runs, leaving everything to play for in the final over.

With nerves jangling and blood pressure rising for those watching 🫣, Rachel calmly added a couple of singles before Louisa smashed a four and followed it with another single. Then came the final ball of the match. Louisa defended her wicket brilliantly, driving the ball firmly into the ground to secure a memorable victory.

An outstanding final partnership saw Rachel finish with five fours, while Louisa added two fours, kept her nerve and preserved her wicket. A truly match-winning performance from both players and all the team. 👏

A huge thank you goes to our fantastic sponsors, Dave for umpiring, Margaret for scoring, and to our loyal supporters, Jan and Nettie's mum, for cheering us on throughout the evening. Your support is always appreciated.

Finally, if you're thinking about giving cricket a try, we'd love to welcome you to our friendly team. We train every Friday evening (weather permitting) from 6.30pm at Barnby Dun Cricket Ground, between Barnby Dun and Kirk Sandall. New players of all ages and abilities are always welcome!

🏏 MATCH REPORT | BARNBY DUN CC CLAIM THEIR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON! 💙💛

At long last… the wait is over! Barnby Dun CC secured their first league victory of the season, and no one can say it wasn’t deserved.

After months of setbacks, close games and plenty of disappointment, this group never stopped believing. Week after week they turned up, worked hard, backed each other and kept their heads held high. Today, all that dedication finally paid off.

Having been asked to bowl first, Barnby Dun produced one of their best all-round performances of the season. Despite Richard Atherton making 64, the bowlers stuck to their task brilliantly, dismissing the hosts for 166.

The standout performance came from skipper Simon White, who produced a superb spell of 5 wickets for just 28 runs from 12 overs, backed up by Ajay Budania (3-21) and Shay Dunning, who also chipped in with a wicket. There was excellent support in the field too, with Joe Dent, Githin Kurian and Simon all taking catches, while Ben Salter and Joe Dent combined for a sharp run out.

Chasing 167, Barnby Dun suffered a nightmare start, slipping to 13-3 and then 60-4, with the game hanging firmly in the balance.

But then came the moment everyone at the club has been waiting for…

Welcome home, Ben Salter.

On his return to Barnby Dun colours, Ben played an outstanding unbeaten 87, anchoring the innings with patience, composure and class when his team needed him most. Alongside him, Ajay Budania produced a superb unbeaten 48, and together they guided Barnby Dun to victory with an unbroken partnership that will live long in the memory.

It wasn’t just a win. It was a reward for every player who has kept turning up despite results not going their way. Character isn’t built when you’re winning every week - it’s built when you keep believing through the difficult times.

Today, that belief was rewarded.

Congratulations to every single player. Enjoy this one… you’ve earned it. 💙💛👏

The 1st XI make the trip to Millhouse CC this Saturday, still searching for that first win of the season. With the campaign now past the halfway mark, everyone knows we need to start turning performances into points.

We’re also delighted to welcome Ben Salter back to Barnby Dun CC. It’s great to have him back in club colours, and we can’t wait to see him back out in the middle.

Every game is a fresh opportunity, and the lads will be giving everything to get the season up and running.

Good luck to everyone travelling, and as always, thank you to those who continue to support the team every week.

💙❤️💛

Barnby Dun CC Midweek XI Secure the Division 3 League Title

Barnby Dun CC Midweek XI are Doncaster & District Infirmary Evening League Division 3 champions after a superb 23-run victory over second-placed Misterton Phoenix CC secured the title with a match to spare.

Knowing that victory would put the league beyond doubt, Barnby Dun produced a performance worthy of champions.

Batting first, Barnby Dun recovered brilliantly from an early setback thanks to a magnificent unbeaten 100 from just 60 balls by S Hussain. His superb innings, which included three fours and nine sixes, anchored the innings and powered Barnby Dun to an impressive 155-6 from their 20 overs.

Tony Singh played the perfect supporting role with an entertaining 33, while Phil Fletcher added a valuable 16 as Barnby Dun finished strongly.

Defending 155 against the side sitting second in the table was always going to require a disciplined performance, and Barnby Dun delivered exactly that. Every bowler played their part in keeping the pressure on, with U Ramakrishna claiming the only wicket of the innings. Despite unbeaten knocks from B Mapp (62)* and P Mawdsley (28)*, Misterton Phoenix were restricted to 132-1 from their 20 overs, falling 23 runs short.

The victory means Barnby Dun can no longer be caught at the top of the Doncaster & District Infirmary Evening League Division 3, sealing the Division 3 League title with one fixture still to play.

It’s a fantastic achievement for the entire squad and a reward for the consistency, commitment and teamwork shown throughout the season. Winning the league by defeating the team directly beneath them in the table makes the achievement even sweeter.

⭐ Player of the Match: S Hussain – a sensational unbeaten century that laid the foundations for a title-winning victory.

Last night the Ladies Barnby Dun Softball Cricket team had to say farewell to Sophie Hudson.

She has completed her studies in Doncaster and returns home for her next chapter in studies and work.

Sophie has been an assett to the club in the 3 years she has been with us. Many wickets taken and this year thus far has been her best.

We wish Sophie all the best in her future on and off the pitch.
