Step into the rhythm of swing and discover the joy of jazz dance!

As part of Durham Jazz Festival 2026, join Andy and Joo-Lee for a fun and welcoming introduction to Lindy Hop - the energetic social dance style born from the jazz era.

Having been at the heart of the North East swing dance scene since 2007, Andy and Joo-Lee are experts at making everyone feel comfortable, whether you’re completely new to dancing or already love to hit the floor.

Start with a friendly taster lesson to get you moving, then keep the swing tunes flowing as DJ Andy takes over for relaxed social dancing. No experience needed, no partner required - just bring comfy shoes, an open mind and your love for great music.

Whether you’re a jazz fan or simply looking for something new to try, come along and join the fun! 💃🎷

What a wonderful afternoon of live music and social dancing at Beamish Museum. We loved the music by Jeanie & The Jolly Boys. Fantastic 🎙️💃🎵🕺

One very hot July afternoon in 2018, we were filmed in a beautiful community hall in Crook.

The BBC was looking for community groups from each county, from martial arts groups to sausage dog walkers, and there we were, representing Durham with our swing dancing.

I thought we would simply be part of a crowd scene, happily dancing away in the background as extras. Little did I know that Lindy Jazz would end up front and centre, introducing BBC programmes for the next two years!

It was such a fun project and such a brilliant memory. We had no idea, standing there on that hot summer day, just how often our dancing would pop up on people’s screens.

And yes, I still wish they had used swing music instead of a boom-boom beat. But we danced anyway and had so much fun!

Our next Lindy Jazz course starts on Wednesday 9 September in Durham, and we’d love to welcome you.

This course is ideal if you are:

New to Lindy Hop
Fairly new to partner dancing
Returning after a break
A Ballroom or Latin dancer looking for something different
Someone who has felt confused in previous dance classes and wants a clearer, kinder approach

We’ll help you build the basics step by step, with great swing music and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

If you’ve enjoyed Ballroom or Latin but would like something more relaxed and social, come and try Lindy Hop.

There are no exams.
No competitions.
No need for sparkly outfits.

Just great music, friendly people and a joyful partner dance with roots in swing jazz.

Lindy Hop is energetic, musical and full of personality, but our beginner course starts simply and clearly.

You’ll be guided step by step, with time to practise and enjoy the process.
