A perfect summary of Sunday's action.

Today marked the 49th Hailes Quarry junior parkrun.

Junior Parkrun isn't a race, and every child who takes part deserves recognition and praise. However, it's also right that we celebrate some of the outstanding achievements we see each week, as they can inspire others to keep challenging themselves and striving to improve.

Of the 49 events we've held over the past year, only seven have seen a female runner cross the finish line first overall, and today was one of those special occasions. Huge congratulations to Isla, who becomes just the sixth female runner to finish first overall at Hailes Quarry Junior Parkrun. In a strange coincidence, three of those six runners have been called Isla!

Well done as well to Angus, who was our fastest male runner today.

It's also worth remembering that while Junior Parkrun is open to everyone aged 4 to 14, older participants naturally tend to have greater strength and endurance than many of our younger runners.

Despite some very heavy rain before the start, the weather cleared just in time and conditions turned out to be ideal for running. We welcomed 75 runners in total, with an incredible 19 personal bests recorded. Congratulations to every one of them!

We also had two children complete their very first Junior Parkrun, and we hope they enjoyed every minute of it. On top of that, we were delighted to welcome eight runners visiting Hailes Quarry Junior Parkrun for the first time.

As always, Junior Parkrun is completely free, fun, and open to everyone aged 4-14. You do need to register before taking part and remember to bring your barcode along. Register here: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/?section=form

And of course, our events couldn't happen without our amazing volunteers. If you'd like to help out occasionally, we'd love to hear from you! Just email: [email protected]

Great shots from Dr Scott Arthur MP who was volunteering on cone 2. Our park has really greened up since the rains compared to our pals down south at Dartford junior parkrun, which looks like a very parched Serangeti at present.

Very grateful for the support πŸ‘

Today was the 48th Hailes Quarry junior parkrun, and I'm proud to say it was my 40th time volunteering at the event!

Although it was a little wet when we started, that didn't stop an excellent turnout, with 75 young runners taking part. 🌧️

A huge congratulations to our fastest male runner, Paak, who completed the course in an impressive 7:36, achieving a new personal best for him. Our fastest female runner was Helena, who also put in a fantastic performance.

An incredible 9 of our 75 runners achieved personal best times today. What a fantastic achievement and something they should all be very proud of! πŸŽ‰

Of course, Junior Parkrun isn't about racing is about taking part - walk, skipping jogging and running is fine... and parents are welcome too!

It was also great to welcome 12 runners taking part at Hailes Quarry Park for the first time, and a further 7 young peopel completing their very first Junior Parkrun anywhere. A very warm welcome to all of you, and we hope to see you back again soon!

As always, Junior Parkrun is free, fun, and safe, but it can only happen thanks to volunteers who give up their time each week. A huge thank you to every volunteer who helped make today's event possible.

If you'd like to take part, all you need to do is register online and bring along your barcode. It's completely free: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/?section=form
