Big congratulations to Sam with an outstanding pass in his shodan grading at yesterday's HDKI - GB brown and black belt course run by the excellent Paul Uren Sensei. Also congrats to Steve Bailes sensei on awarding his inaugural dan grades.

Last night we introduced the coloured belts to a line up. Always scary when put under pressure. They did great though. Will speed it up next time 😜

A quiet class on a hot and sweaty bank holiday monday.
We worked on grading kion shodan/nidan and slow and controlled kicks using a resistance band with a partner.
Still left us all melting!! Good work everyone. Then we worked on bassai dai with jess.

Over Easter we had classes on as normal on mondays and Thursdays, so we thought we would do something different.
Alice took charge and showed everyone some self defense krav maga style that she did for her recent grading.
We did some knife and stick/bat defenses last week and last night we did chokes and ground defenses. Definitely very different and most were a bit out of their comfort zone but fun was had by all.
Whats interesting is almost everything could be linked back to a karate move/posture or stance just done in a much more basic and messy form.
Well done everyone! 👊

Its our final week of classes this week. Monday we awarded Ron our adult student of the year. Ron has been training with us for a little while now after taking a 20 year break from karate. His dedication to training is clear as he has made massive improvements over the last year in his ability. Plus he's done a few local workshops showing that he wants to learn from others and expand is knowledge and skill. Well done Ron.

Tuesday we had our final kids class of the year. I (Alice) decided to do something fun and invited the parents to join in and let their kids teach them karate. Everyone had such fun and their was a great lively atmosphere in the dojo. Lots of laughing. The parents were great sports. Well done.
We also awarded Samuel P student of the term for stepping up and assisting with the younger and lower grades.
Our kid student of the year went to Alex. Alex's dedication to training is unmatched. He's trains twice a week every week which clearly shows in his improvement. He passed his brown belt 3rd kyu grading a couple months ago and won best grading for that. Plus he won student of the term twice this year. For his commitment and enthusiasm and always helping lower grades. Bravo Alex!!

Over the weekend Rangan Ravindran Alice Maria Baverstock Steve Drake and Jessica Huntley went and trained at the HDKI christmas course in Birmingham. It was a fantastic course as always and great to see so many good friends there and meeting new ones.
Big thanks to everyone involved in making the course such an amazing event where we can all come together to learn from the best and do good karate!
Alice and Steve also went for their Nidan gradings. Scary stuff!! Alas neither of them passed but they learnt a lot got some great constructive feedback which will make them work even harder towards their goal.
We learn for from our mistakes then anything else. It was great to put our skills to the ultimate test infront of an awesome and experienced panel of examiners.
