Yesterday Regional Manager Susie and Sailing Developer James were on the water at Spinnaker Sailing Club for the moderation day of a dinghy instructor course which has been run for an incredible group of sailors who are volunteers (and sailors) with some of our local RYA Sailability groups!!!

Over the last few months these sailors have worked hard, and gained a huge amount of skill and knowledge to enable them to help others start sailing!

An interesting post for those based in the Solent area of the South Region.

⚠️ Speed Limits Apply on the Water Too

The Marine Support Unit is reminding all vessels, particularly Personal Water Craft (jet skis), that speed limits are actively enforced throughout the Solent.

We are seeing ongoing reports of excessive speed, especially within Langstone Harbour and Portsmouth Harbour. These restrictions are in place for the safety of all water users.

Please refer to the attached map and ensure you know and comply with the relevant speed limits.

Stay safe, and respect other water users.

Do you want to become a Dinghy Instructor and feel you have the ability to teach and instruct - but think you may need support to undertake elements of the role and would benefit from a course adapted to your needs? If yes, or you know someone who you think would make a great instructor then we have a great opportunity coming up we want to tell you about!

In August we will be running an accessible Dinghy Instructor course at Spinnaker Sailing Club (just outside Ringwood, Hampshire) with the support of New Forest Sailability using a range of craft such as Hansa 303s, Laser Stratos Keelboats and RS Zests. Candidates will go through the full RYA Dinghy Instructor training course, with personalised adaptations made to support individuals to achieve their full potential as instructors! Where adaptations or support are needed these will be recorded in an RYA Instructor Support Statement (see more about these in the linked video below).

To support individual candidates a programme of training and support has been planned leading up to the instructor course itself.

Some of the key dates of this training are below:
Pre-Entry Sailing Assessment - 14th August
Instructor Course - 24th to 28th August

Aimed at RYA-affiliated sailing, yacht clubs, charities and university teams across the UK, Sunsail's Funding the Future initiative offers the opportunity to secure up to £6,000 of funding to invest in facilities, equipment, and innovative programmes designed to grow participation in sailing at grassroots level.

In addition to the top prize, Sunsail will also award £2,000 to two runners-up.
