The Southside Ride

The Southside Ride 10+kilometers of specially maintained grass tracks for off road riding Come and have fun with your horse in a stress free environment.

No time or performance pressure just fun in the open countryside. Meet up with friends to enjoy a hack. What is better than great company and great views plus your horse? The Southside Ride is great for getting horses fit with undulating hills. We have a a few eventers of all levels who use the tracks to improve both horse and rider fittness. Some show jumpers bring their horses to let them open up a bit. Dressage riders find they can work on developing strength and top line or having fun with their extended work on the long straights. Endurance riders like the distance available and once you're here you can go round the tracks for as long as you like. We welcome drivers and when we get a driving booking encourage other drivers to come at the same time as we close the tracks to riders when drivers are out. There are no jumping options on the tracks but the eagle eyed riders may see the developments progressing and developing the facilities. We are very excited about our plans and hope you will be too. We love to hear how riders are progressing with their young horses and seeing the riders themselves gaining confidence with their horses along with feedback from competitions that have been entered. We are looking forward to welcoming lots of horses and their riders for the 2022 season and hope some of you will put up some photos on the page of your visits to us. FEE: £10/horse and rider visit (unlimited time) each rider must pay for their visit. Regular rider deals: 10 tickets for £80 (12 month expiry allocated to the rider multiple horses maybe used)

Please phone to book 24 hours before intending to ride or book through the page we will confirm we have received your booking. I

Regular riders may get access to the track during the winter season when the track is closed if weather conditions are good. We also welcome enquiries from group and clubs. Groups of 6 or more BRC members (with cards) ride for £8/horse and rider. Due to Covid precautions we ask all visitors to use allocated fields and parking areas away from our own yard. The toilet, wash off and other facilities are currently unavailable. We hope that we can reinstate these soon. You are welcome to take water from the water trough in the parking field.

Our smallest introductory section is designed to build rider confidence. Small logs on a circle like a clock. No flags to distract and a feeling of being held in by the fence and the structure of the old railway line. Building to a double them a triple log. All very inviting and with a natural flow.

Course ready to welcome our private hire with their instructor Jaqui Patterson. The changing of the season makes smaller bookings more feasible.

How many lines can you find? Direct lines, dog legs, S bends right, left up hill and down. We may only go to 80 in height but our jumps are strategically placed for you to be able to train both simple and complicated questions from early on.

Course check before this morning’s private hire. Flags show that jumps have been checked. If flags are down it shows a repair is needed. Normally for us this is the ground after wildlife have been digging. Flags are also there to show which direction jumps can be used in. Same colour flags they are designed and pinned for any direction between the flags. Red to the right if there is red and white.
