Sutton Cricket Club Hull's friendliest club. The pitch was in a field east of St. I am sure the side must have travelled on the train when necessary.
The Sutton on Hull cricket Club was formed prior to 1872 when W.G.Grace was in his prime and when the game was played with 22 per side and being a special village social event. James's Church known as Church Mount and very little is known of this period but a photograph remains today of the annual cricket match V the twenty two in 1893. The Club continued on after the 1st World War the centre base

TONIGHT’S 100🏏
Ryan Peck has selected his team for tonight’s Hundred Cup game.
Bar will be open from 5:30pm for all spectators.
Once again, thank you to all our sponsors.
There is no junior practice, All Stars & Dynamos this Friday (5/6/26) due to a men’s fixture.
We look forward to seeing all the boys and girls again on Friday 12th June 🏏
Everyone is still welcome to support our men’s team in their Hundred Cup fixture against Woodhouse Grange - the clubhouse will be open for anyone who would like to come down to watch.
Excellent win in the cup for our U13s tonight against Eastrington.
Getting the fixture played tonight looked doubtful around 5pm with a heavy downpour. But with the wicket and outfield being in fantastic condition, thanks to our fab volunteer groundsmen, we got the game on.
The game was reduced to 15 overs each due to Eastrington battling through Hull’s notorious rush hour traffic and a rain delay before the 2nd over could be completed. We then had some sunshine to ensure the game was completed.
Ben won the toss and selected to bowl on what was a very good batting wicket. Eastrington ended their innings with 81/3, with their two opening batters scoring 25 (retired) and 22. Pick of the Sutton bowlers was Oliver H BJH Construction Solutions (2 wickets for 9 runs off 2 overs) and Laurie (1 wicket for 10 runs off 2 overs).
This was a challenging target in 15 overs but the team managed to chase this thanks to an OUTSTANDING partnership between Sam R Northern Accountants Ltd and James T, who both retired on 25 runs each 👏👏👏
Short batting cameos from Ben Cottingham Parks Junior Academy (11 n.o) and Harry (3 n.o) brought home the victory ending the game 85/0.
Winning the game without losing a wicket is a huge achievement.
Cup games are played in a traditional format. Unlike pairs cricket it meant that some of our youngest didn’t get the chance to bat and bowl, but we appreciate their contributions in the field and it will have been a good experience for our younger U11 players. Well done to Elliot and Mason Eon Visual Media who made their debuts for the U13s tonight and to Brooke for stepping in after she heard we were a player short.
The next round looks like a very tough game against Woodhouse Grange at home.

WEEKENDS RESULTS
It was a tough weekend for the club, who had 16 players missing, mainly due to watching a rampant Wigan win at Wembley.
Our 1XI fell to a 92 run defeat at Hornsea. Bowling first, Sutton did well to restrict the innings to 212. Largely to wickets from Yuvi Singh (3/35), Bhag Hamza Bhag (3/50) and Charlie Brook (3/52, Sponsored by Roclad).
In response, only Bhag Hamza Bhag (34), Prince Bedi (28, Sponsored by Sumitomo Drive Technologies) and Rahul Popli (25, Sponsored by Only Fools and Fences) offered any resistance, with a combination of poor shots and decisions going against the Sutton batsmen ensuring that 212 was out of reach.
Our 2XI also lost.
Bowling first, Sutton restricted North Ferriby to 223/9. Pick of the bowlers were Rehan Nisar (4/41) and Raja Kamran Numberdaar (2/22). Special mention to Tom Ransom (Sponsored by Northern Accountants Ltd), who was the most economical of the day, opening the bowling at just 14 years old, a huge prospect for the future.
In response, Sutton never got going and were 61 all out.
On Sunday, our 3XI fell to a 66 run defeat against a strong Beverley team. Ian Peck (2/34, Sponsored by FibreOn) was the pick of the bolwers on a tough day.
In response, Sutton started well, with David Cain (Sponsored by Flames - Hull) scoring a quick fire 45. Declan Nicholson scored 26 and Jon Boyton scored 23 at the end of the innings, managing to bat with his son Ben, for the first time.
Although results didn't fall in our favour, with that many players missing across the weekend (some could have made it back for the 2nd innings after leaving Wembley early), to put out three teams shows the progress the club has made in a year. Last year, we had to concede our 2XI game.

The U15s put on an outstanding team performance against Driffield Girls in the cup.
Bowling and fielding first Sutton did all the basic right. They were walking in, backing up the wickets and played with energy and enthusiasm. The fielding saw catches from Caleb, Holly (DWB Bespoke Joinery) and Flynn (CTS Shopfitting Ltd), and a run out from Sam R (Northern Accountants Ltd). James was excellent behind the stumps.
Tom (Northern Accountants Ltd) made some excellent decisions as captain. This included taking himself off bowling after the opening 2 overs and replaced by Ben (Cottingham Parks Junior Academy), who then took his first fifer (5 wickets for 14 runs off 4 overs) 👏👏👏
Sam and Holly also took wickets, followed by caught & bowled by Caleb and Tom. This left Sutton chasing 83 to win.
Flynn and Kurtis opened the batting and made a solid start before George (24) and Caleb (22) picked up the run rate. There were good contributions for Harry and Ben before Tom closed the game with the winning runs.
A big well done to all our players tonight. They demonstrated some fantastic quality and played well to the game plan. Special mention to Oliver B who made the leap to U15s to help us out tonight. He didn’t look out of place.
A great result tonight - we play Cottingham at the SCG next Monday (8th June) at 6pm.

Sutton Women’s 1XI produced a dominant all-round display to secure an impressive win over Welton. With debuts from Penny Williams and Charlene Metcalfe 🙌
After losing the toss and Welton choosing to field first, we made a slow and wobbly start. Welton’s opening bowlers dominated the early part the game, restricting us to 7/2 off 3 overs. Jodie joined Claire at the crease and they quickly ramped up the run rate. Jodie hit an outstanding 7 4’s. Both Claire and Jodie made great calls between the wickets and hit a flurry of boundaries between them.
After facing just 21 balls, Jodie retired on 33*
After 19.4 overs, Claire retired on 31*. Kara came in and racked up a speedy 28 from 29 balls.
Despite the rocky start we had, between Claire, Jodie & Kara, Sutton soon had an impressive score of 130/2 off 20 overs.
Trying to defend our score, we opened the bowling strong with Brooke & Penny. After 4 overs Hannah came on as first change and in her second over took the first wicket for Sutton. Brooke then came back onto bowl and this took another wicket. With some sharp fielding, Hannah chased the ball, quickly turned and hit the stumps, leading to a 3rd wicket for Sutton. Keeping the bowling tight and the fielders on their toes, Sutton held their nerve in the field and closed out the game comfortably.
Runs scored:
Claire Clarkson - 31*
Jodie Steeksma - 33*
Kara Gurnell - 28*
Wickets taken:
Hannah Paddison - 1
Brooke Harrison - 1
Catches taken:

🏏 RESULTS FROM THE WEEKEND 🏏
A hugely successful weekend for Sutton Cricket Club, picking up 35 points from a possible 40 across the 1st and 2nd XIs.
Saturday saw the 1XI host Driffield, with skipper Johnny Hambly winning the toss and electing to bat first. Sutton posted an impressive 263/9 from their 50 overs.
Kai Nicholson laid the platform with a composed 34 at the top of the order, before Prince Bedi (Sponsored by Sumitomo Drive Technologies) continued his outstanding form with a superb 95, narrowly missing out on what would have been his fourth century for the club. Bhag Hamza Bhag added 33, while Josh Dudding (Sponsored by KWI Installations) provided late acceleration with a quickfire 23*.
In reply, Driffield never really recovered from an excellent opening spell by Bhag Hamza Bhag and Harry Masterman (Sponsored by Halmshaws), who returned figures of 3/47 and 1/24 respectively. Archie Smithson (Sponsored by Pokevend) ripped through the middle order with a brilliant 5/17, while Amit Singh Shekhawat also chipped in with a wicket to secure an excellent Sutton victory.
Meanwhile, the 2XI travelled to Cottingham and were involved in a dramatic tie.
After winning the toss, Asaf Balal chose to bowl first, and Sutton immediately made breakthroughs through Syam Samudrala, who produced an outstanding spell of 5/27. He was well supported by Faisal Sahak (1/36), Husnain Yas Bashir (2/15) and Asaf himself (1/12) as Cottingham were restricted to 128 on a difficult surface.
The chase got off to the worst possible start as Sutton slumped to 10/3 inside three overs. Asaf Balal and Keanan Challis (Sponsored by Three Crowns Interiors) steadied things, while Rehan Nisar top scored with 21. At 112/9, defeat looked inevitable — until Mark Brook (Sponsored by Roclad) produced a determined effort on his 2XI debut.
Facing 22 balls, Mark held firm while Husnain Yas Bashir battled through to an unbeaten 12*. Unfortunately, Mark was bowled with the scores level, resulting in a dramatic tie and five valuable points for Sutton.
On Monday, the 1XI travelled to Brandesburton. After losing the toss, Sutton were asked to field first, and once again the opening attack set the tone. Bhag Hamza Bhag and Harry Masterman (Sponsored by Halmshaws) struck early, with five LBWs falling during the innings. Hamza finished with 4/42, while Harry returned 2/25.
Josh Dudding (Sponsored by KWI Installations) added 3/36 as Brandesburton were bowled out for 153.
In reply, Rahul Popli (31, Sponsored by Only Fools and Fences) and the ever-reliable Kai Nicholson (60) guided Sutton into a commanding position. Prince Bedi added 32 before Johnny Hambly fittingly sealed the win in style with a six.
The 2XI also bowled first on the hottest day of the year. Brandesburton’s openers put on 71 before Rehan Nisar claimed his first wicket of the season. Sutton fought back well to restrict the hosts to 201/8 on what looked an excellent batting surface.
Asaf Balal led the attack with 3/28, supported by Charlie Brook (2/42, Sponsored by Roclad), Faisal Sahak (1/36) and Yasir Bashir (1/50).
Sutton then made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just the 27th over. Abid Shabbir starred with a magnificent unbeaten 109*, while Charlie Brook finished 39* as the pair guided Sutton home comfortably.
An excellent weekend of cricket across the club, with standout performances throughout 👏🏏
