A win and a loss to start the season for our men’s indoor side on Saturday, as we beat Carholme but fell to defeat by Old Lincolnians.
In the first match v Old Lincs, a score of 81/5 from 10 overs proved to be not enough runs, as Old Lincs chased the score down inside nine overs, for the loss of just three wickets.
Highlights of the game included 38* for Opening Bat Rob Honeyball and 3/20 from three overs for Opening Bowler Wesley Leak.
The second match however ended up being a final ball thriller, which we came out on the right side of, chasing down a target of 87 off the last ball of the innings.
Having been asked to bowl first, the guys took regular wickets and fielded well to restrict Carholme to 86/5 from their 10 overs, including wicket a piece for Chris Davidson (1/13), Wes (1/22) and Harvey Woolley (1/30) along with two run outs.
The run chase got off to a solid start, including 19 for Keeper Batsman Will Lockwood, as we built steadily towards the target, needing 30 off the final three, 20 off the final two and then 14 off the final over to win.
Wes then went on to hit the first ball for 6, then a single and a scrambled three, leaving six to win off three balls. Harvey then hit a glorious four tying the scores and leaving one run required from two balls, unfortunately Harvey was stumped trying to hit the winning run, leaving Wes to face the final ball, still needing one run.
Mercifully a no-ball was delivered and the ensuing extra run took us over the line to take victory by one wicket.
A good way to start the season, getting some points on the board early on, in complete contrast to last season when the only win we secured was in our final game of the season.
Hopefully Saturday’s positive result is the start of a good season for the team, whose next game takes place on Halloween 🎃 🏏
