Yoga Studio in the heart of East London.

Faith is part of the old guard at Waking Dreams. Before Waking Dreams moved in, some of you will remember the previous studio, Stretch. Her memories of the yoga studio at Ada Street extend back to practicing and then training in 2018 with some other familiar names to long-time Dreamers: Charley and Tamzin.

The names and deeds may have changed, but Faith’s beautifully fluid, creative classes continue to fill the studio on Sunday morning come rain or shine.

You’ll find Mayoor teaching his famous core and rings double on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

He got into coaching when he set up a calisthenic sports club at uni, ran it for the three years he was studying and fell in love with it. He wanted fitness to be something that was accessible to people after growing sick and tired of seeing 21-year-olds graduate with the health issues of 60-year-olds.

His favourite neighbourhood spot is his friend’s bakery, EK Bakery, which is tucked round behind the main market.

Lou is Waking Dreams’ restorative queen, although you may find her covering more dynamic practices too. A true advocate that a big, fat lie down can begin to solve a load of problems, she’s also a firm believer that the body knows what
it needs before the brain does when arriving on the mat.

Her favourite neighbourhood spot is The Dove, where she reckons she’s sunk more pints than anywhere else in the country.

Introducing: OUR PEOPLE. OUR PLACE.

By Liz Seabrook… photographer, yoga teacher, long-time dreamer 🌀

“A while ago I scribbled something in my notes about Waking Dreams being the centre of my village. I grew up in the countryside in a place where everyone knows everyone, and over time I began to miss that sense of place. The way that people smile at and greet each other in the neighbourhood, which at times feels suffocating, or like you’re in an episode of Sesame Street but also that you’re a part of something bigger than yourself.

I’ve been in East London for 15 years now, and I’ve been practicing yoga on Ada Street for nine of those. Between those walls I’ve found some of my closest friends, cried in savasana, cried on the street outside, laughed, hugged, played, trained, given up things and taken up others. I’ve seen teachers come and go, friends move on, and new ones arrive. Along the way, I realised that I’d found my community.

This is a series that I’ve wanted to make for a long time; photographing the teachers that form the constant inhale/exhale of the community within the neighbourhood that is home to it. In the time I’ve been coming to Waking Dreams I’ve transitioned from student to teacher (although I’ll always be a student), and knowing a little more of what it takes to stand up in front of a class, and make a living in this industry, reignited an urgency to make this work.

These people are some of my heroes – for one reason or another – and they deserve to be celebrated. My hope in my work is always that the person in front of my camera feels both seen and heard. I hope this work allows these brilliant folk to experience just that.” - Liz

This series will be rolling out right here on our Instagram.

Thank you Liz, for sharing your brilliant work and your story as well as celebrating the teachers that built this community.

Our Schedule is a Syllabus.

Two Studios.
Five Categories.
One Cohesive System.
Training made simple.

These 5 Categories to make session planning easy. Achieve your goals with a well-rounded approach.

Let’s breakdown these categories…

[yoga] From dynamic flows that build heat and strength to slower, more contemplative practices; this category spans the full range of the tradition. What every class shares is intentionality. You are not just moving. You are learning how to move, how to breathe through it, and how to carry that steadiness off the mat.

[strength] Classes in this category build the physical capacity that underpins everything else you do in the studio and outside it. Whether you are working with bodyweight, rings or resistance, the training here is properly programmed. It compounds. Come consistently and you will feel it in ways that go well beyond how you look.

[mobility] This isn’t stretching for the sake of it: mobility is specific, structured curricula built to create real, lasting change in the body. Hips, spine, shoulders, full body... each offering a focused programme rather than a general class. This is the work that makes everything else feel different

[skill] Disciplines with real depth. Rings, aerial, pole, handstands... each one a specific physical language with its own logic, its own progressions and its own rewards. Classes here are structured to take you somewhere.

[recovery] This category covers everything designed to down-regulate the nervous system, support tissue repair, and bring the body back into balance. Sauna, restorative, yoga nidra, fully body. These are not “easy” options, these are essential ones. The moments that happen between your harder sessions is often the training that makes the difference.
