Confidence is built step by step.
These pictures show two of our children taking turns in a controlled partner exercise that helps develop core strength, body control, balance, trust and focus.
One child leans forward from the knees with hands behind the back while the partner supports the ankles. Then they swap roles.
It may look simple, but it takes concentration, courage, discipline and real effort.
This is one of the things I love about martial arts for children. It is not just about physical strength. It is about helping children grow in confidence, character, teamwork and self-belief.
Our Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu children’s classes are taught in a positive small-group environment, so children can be supported properly while learning real skill.

Real skill is built step by step.
In Video 1 I showed the foundation. A headstand from the floor, but my core wasn't ready to bring my legs all the way up.
In this video, after putting in the conditioning work, I bring my whole trunk straight up into a full headstand with complete control. Plus a bonus movement I call the Airplane. Legs lifting out and up into handstand position with precision.
It may look easy. But it takes real conditioning. Core strength, shoulder strength, arm strength, balance and patience.
For me this is what real martial arts teaching looks like. Not just telling students what to do, but training yourself, improving yourself, and leading by example.
Part 3 is coming, and it's going to be the toughest yet. Attempting to push from a headstand directly into a handstand.

Student of the Week 🏆
A lovely proud moment with this young man standing in front of the Northern Praying Mantis flag, holding his trophy and smiling with confidence.
He earned Student of the Week through effort and improvement in class. His bridges were stronger, he held his own body weight well, and his snap kicks looked better too.
These are the moments that make teaching so rewarding, seeing a child practise, improve, and feel proud of himself.
Well done 👏 Keep training, keep improving, and keep believing in yourself.
