Maidenhead Sailing Club

What a lovely club! Thank you for an amazing afternoon with a wonderful BBQ. The children who ran the BBQ were fantastic, and so helpful. We would love to come back - hope you run it again soon!
Hello MSC friends! We just joined MSC and plan to use our recently-acquired kayak on the lake. Only one snag - the kayak is in our garden and we don’t have a roof rack. We only live 5 mins away (close to Furze Platt station) - if anyone has a van/trailer/roof-rack and is willing to help in return for a drink (or two!) please let me know 🛶
The Youth & Junior Virtual Series Starts Tonight 6pm
Hi people.
This is possibly going to sound like a strange post.
I am in search of a tiny little keelboat called a Minuet.
I’ve searched far and wide to no avail.
But I found a video of loads of them sailing at Maidenhead Sailing Club and wondered if anyone at all has one, either to sell, or for me to study so I can scratch build one. I understand they aren’t in production anymore.
Sorry if I’ve posted this in the wrong place, feel free to wrap me on the knuckles and point me elsewhere.
But please let me know either in comments or PM if you can help

Many thanks.
Hi, who can I speak to about the junior half term course? Many thanks.

Hi there,

I'm a TV Producer and I was hoping you might be happy to share the information below in your group and with any family, friends and colleagues?

I'm looking for couples from Maidenhead, and the rest of the UK, to take part in an exciting new series for a major broadcaster and I think it could be a great opportunity for some of your followers?

TV company 7Wonder are looking for couples who want to get engaged but feel that their parents haven't accepted their relationship due to their partner not being what their family had in mind for them.

Maybe your parents are worried they won't be able to provide for you in the long term?
Or is your partner from a completely different background to yourself?

Whatever the reason we are planning on helping the couples taking part get engaged and plan their wedding whilst hopefully bringing their families together in time for the big day.

If any of the above sounds like you then visit our website for more information on how to apply or email me at [email protected]

Or if you think any of your friends or family could benefit from the experience then please do share this information with them. We'd love to hear from anyone that thinks their relationship with their potential in-laws could do with some improvement.

Work Party 2022 👏🙌👏

To all who came and helped at the work party.

A very big thank you!!

We have now managed to complete the decking edging. Our club windows have all been washed, and the club gate has been fixed, and rubbed down ready for painting.

We have a very clean race hut, along with the changing rooms; kitchen and training room too. The wet room has had some further refurbishment carried out too.

The Trees around the lake and club house have been cut back and cleared and we have also managed to do further work on the exterior bar wall.

In total, a 40-yard skip has been filled with all the rubbish from around the site, and we have also managed to lay some new turf.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to Jeff Maidment for all his hard work in organising the work party.

The site now looks amazing, thank you everyone!!

Wow… view of our lake from the skies on this beautiful autumnal morning. With thanks to Clara.

Why not sign your kids up for some of our exciting summer activities? Our popular start sailing watersports weeks are suitable for beginners and improvers. The week combines training towards your next RYA stage with paddlesports and fun activities such as Swallows & Amazons or The Chase. To book or for more details of dates and pricing please contact [email protected].

Our one-off activities are also great fun, such as our Try Racing sessions. These combine fun race themed activities with a relaxed beginners/ improvers race before our usual Thursday club race.

The normal Youth & Junior program will also continue with our Saturday morning and Wednesday evening sessions. Spaces are still available for regular sailors and for taster sessions. Contact [email protected] for more details.

We are delighted to have you back, old friends. Happy sailing ☺️

Maidenhead Albacore Open Meeting – 03 April 2022.

The resident Canada and Egyptian Geese made for the island as 13
Albacores, 10 from the home club and 3 visitors launched on a bright sunny, but cool, morning into a strengthening force 3 from the North West. The home contingent included some junior members in club boats (not the fastest) taking part in their first proper Open Meeting and despite being seriously under-weight in the stronger gusts they finished off the bottom in all races. The race officer set a course with longer and a shorter beat linked by 2 reaches and a run.

The wind was far from steady all day with holes and force 4 gusts and short-lived shifts of 45 degrees or more. One such shift came in with a minute to the start of Race 1 suddenly favouring a pin end start and maybe this caught out the fleet because as the gun went no Albacore was nearer to the line than a boat length away. The port shift lasted a minute or so before reverting to the mean. AL 8211 with Stuart McAdam and Sarah Mayhew from a start towards the boat-end gained when wind shifted back and was first to the windward mark. AL 8253 Graham Darvill crewed by Myke Bowers, and AL 7988, Victoria and Magnys McCabe, gained similarly but 7988 had slipped back by the end of the second beat and ex
Maidenhead sailor Barry Wicks in AL 8132 had slipped through to 2nd place. The first 3 held their places to the end of the 3-lap race having been helped by a wind lull behind them in the second beat. Good racing developed behind these three with much place changing before ending in what by the end of the meeting was to become a fairly established pecking order.

The second start was the most exciting of the day with most boats on the line and a few over with 5 seconds to go, but all managed to dip back including 8211 on port, tacking back to starboard just clear of approaching starboard boats as the gun went. 8132 made it to the first mark in the lead with AL 8130 Howard Witt and Erica Hunter just behind and 8211 next. With the wind dropping, 8132 had a 70-meter lead from a group of 5 close boats by mark 2. These six were close together again by the end of beat two (mark 4) with 8132 just holding his lead as the wind increased again to near planning strength, but only light weight juniors Ollie Casey and Geraint Head in AL 6411 actually planned for 60 meters or so. By the windward mark in lap 3, 8211 was 4 seconds ahead of 8132
with 8253 another 10 seconds behind. Next up were AL 8151, Martin Hayward and Chris Somner and 8130 which had been within 10 second of each other all race. Place changing continued in groups of three boats in the last lap with 8132 getting the gun from 8211 by just a meter with 8253 again 3rd.

After a hot lunch provided by the Club, the fleet set sail for race 3 in
more wind and a cloudy sky. The race officer retained the course
configuration but lengthened the beats accordingly. The start was again well contested but everyone managed to get behind the line in the last few seconds. 8211 was again leading at the first mark followed by 8130 and 8132 but by mark 3, AL 8188 Arron Mussell and Jonny Payne had spurted into 3rd place with 8130 4th. As the race developed, 8211 stretched his lead, 8132 and 8253 were comfortably in second and third while AL 8151 made it up to 4th before losing that place to 8130 at the finish with 8151 fifth.

The final start of the day was less aggressive and saw 8211, 8253 and 8130 in that order at mark 1 but the first 6 boats were all very close at mark 3, but as the race progressed intermittent lulls spread the fleet with the cream coming to the top. At one point 8253 briefly took the lead in a competitive last lap but at the end it was 8211 taking the gun, 8253 2nd, 8132 3rd, 8130 4th and winner of the Silver Fleet Al 7525 Andy Pearce and Ian Simpson getting their best finish in 5th.
