Middlesbrough 35 – Scarborough 19.

Middlesbrough marked their first home game of the season with a win against Scarborough this weekend, rising to sixth in Regional 1 North East.
Newly promoted Scarborough were fresh from a season opener win against promotion hopefuls, Ilkley, while Middlesbrough lost their opener in a closely fought game at Sandal, but it was Boro that dominated the scoring in the first half.
Brendan Hill was the first to put points on the scoreboard, with a penalty from 35 yards out. Fellow winger, Harry Bryce was next, breaking through several tackles to force his way over the line for an unconverted try. The game continued at an incredible pace, with both sides attacking, however, it was Boro who scored again. Flanker, *Joe* McNeill drove forward, before spinning the ball out to prop, Myles Colvin, who drew his man and fed winger, Hill, crashing through two tackles to dive over in the corner. Hill’s conversion attempt fell just short (13-0).
Hill scored another unconverted try minutes later, before clever play by centre, Charlie Bourne, sent the ball to prop Josh Lynas, who powered his way over the line for a well-worked try. Hill nailed the conversion, for a half time score of 25-0.
Scarborough rallied in the second half, immediately bursting up the field for a converted try (25-7). Boro’s Aedan Moloney hit back, using his pace to curl around the backline to place the ball over the line. Hill landed a beauty of a conversion to take the score to 32-7.
Scarborough persevered with stellar running from centre, Drew Govier and commanding lineout work from back row, Eddie Erskine. The visitor’s efforts were rewarded with another two tries, as they pushed for a bonus point. Scarborough had to defend some staunch Boro attacking play, conceding a number of penalties, ultimately leading to a successful penalty kick by Hill. The game ended 35-19.
Player/Coach, Ollie Hodgson was enthused, ‘I’m buzzing to get our first home game of the season, and to get a 5-point win. It felt like a proper club day. We had three senior teams out, a past players dinner and the Juniors giving the first team a guard of honour as they ran onto the pitch: a quality day all round.’
