Match report - Home vs Billingham The Owington Farm
Saturday 11th April

We have seen signs of a really good team at times throughout this season so far, and today it was on show for the full game.

Facing a team who have the divisions top scorer, by a country mile, was a test we were looking forward to.

A recent change in our formation has paid dividends for us, and has allowed us to play the way we know we are good at, ball on the floor, slick passing, plenty of options!

From the off today, we were excellent, from back to front!

Before we go over the goals - shout out to our defence today, not one of them gave the leagues high scorer a second to do what has been doing to other teams, gave him no time at all, got his head down, and on the occasions where he managed to make room for a shot, we had forced him away from goal, he didn't have a sniff!

Haran, Foreman, Smith as a back 3, Bravo gents, solid as a rock!!

As soon as the whistle went, we pressed from the front, the forwards chasing players down, the midfield working tirelessly to make sure no passing options inside were there, this forced Billingham to deploy long ball tactics for most of the game, where our back 3 and keeper swept up.

After about 15 minutes, the pressing from the front paid off, Noble closed down a short goal kick, defender went back to the keeper, Noble raced to close the gap to the keeper, who tried to go long, managing to get a leg in the way, the ball deflected up in the air and landed at the feet of Daniels on the edge of the box, calmly slotted the ball past the keeper! 1-0 ⚽️

We kept the intensity up and got a 2nd around 25 minutes in, some good play getting the ball into Hanratty who had found some space in the middle of Billingham's half, lovely ball over to Daniels who beat the line! Clinical 2-0 ⚽️

HT 2-0, the message at half time, was more of the same please!

We did exactly that! Kept the level up, outplaying Billingham in every position. We got a 3rd around 55 minutes, Hanratty with an in-swinging corner, just dropping past the front post, slightest of glances from the head of Noble 3-0 ⚽️

Yet again, 10 minutes later, Hanratty found himself pinging the ball into the box from the left, Beckham esk some would say, this time he found the head of Daniels 4-0 ⚽️
Well deserved hat-trick for Daniels and trio of assists from Hanratty!
👏👏👏

FT 4-0
Daniels ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Noble ⚽️

Every single member of the 15 man squad were brilliant today.

Johnson in goal, as solid as ever!
Haran / Foreman / Smith back 3, unreal today lads!
Jones / Stocks / Paterson / Merryweather / Hanratty as our starting midfield 5, different class.
Daniels / Noble up top - work rate and goals, well done lads!

Chapman / Redman / Hopson / Brook - when players rotated round, you fella's were brilliant, came on with the same intensity, same work rate, same effort, well done lads, it could not be done without the full squad!

One more game left for this season, away next week vs Redcar Old Boys, we will be wanting to take todays level and performance into the final game!

Match report from yesterday's home game vs South Hylton WMC.

After a couple of games where we have taken a while to get going after kick off, we wanted to make sure we were on it from the first whistle this time!

What a first half the lads played, intensity was through the roof, first to everything, pressing all over the pitch, knocking the ball about brilliantly, switching play when we could, the lads were superb.

First half, after a very bright start from us, it didnt take too long to get the opener, Hanratty put a dangerous cross into the area from the left, the wind helped it curl towards the back post, opposition keeper stepped out to claim the ball but fumbled the catch, like a true poacher, Jones was on hand to tap the ball in at the back post, fortunate break, but the start we made deserved it! 1-0 ⚽️

We did not let up at all with putting South Hylton under pressure, closing them down all over the pitch when they had the ball, midway through the half, we got a 2nd, Jones pressing just outside the right of their box, nicked the ball away from their player, it fell to Noble's feet on the right hand side of the box, Noble got the ball out of his feet, quick glance up, seen Daniels peel towards the back post in space, lifted the ball over the defenders, left them no chance, dropped perfectly on the head of Daniels at the back post! 2-0 ⚽️!

A really solid first half, South Hylton, playing against the wind, did have a couple of chances with long balls, but a very good half from the lads! 💪

2nd half, credit to South Hylton, they battled their way into the game and put the pressure on us, with the wind behind them this half, they managed to get a couple of goals midway through, we had plenty of pressure, corners and free kicks to get another, but we couldn't capitalise on our chances 2nd half, some lessons for us to learn with set pieces, which formed part of the debrief at The Jack Hatfields Sports Club LTD

A good competitive game!

2 more to go for this season! Billingham at home, then Redcar away!

Match result & report from yesterday's game vs Hartlepool.

Firstly, we need to say huge thanks to Hartlepool, our pitch was deemed waterlogged after Friday's downpour, Hartlepool were quick to check on their pitch and were sporting enough to offer to host this fixture so we could get the game on!

We went into the game wanting to better the result when we met Hartlepool earlier in the season! (2-1 to them)
We knew we had to start better than the previous week, where it took us 40 mins to wake up.

We were on it from the first whistle this weekend, with a squad that got smaller and smaller the closer we got to the game too!

The first half, we wanted it more, we played better football, not allowing Hartlepool very much at all!

A solid start needs to be capitalised on, and we did just that! We had several really good passages of play down the right hand side, short sharp passing, around half way through the first half, one of these resulted in Chapman playing a ball into Daniels, took the ball under control and away from the defenders into the box, face to face with their keeper, slipped the ball to the right of the keeper with great composure! 1-0 ⚽️

Nothing more than we deserved!

The first half was a keenly contested affair, with us, quite fairly coming out on top!

2nd half, Hartlepool forced their way back into things and put us under more pressure, probably to be expected with these sitting 3rd in the league and looking for promotion.

We were not getting the rub of the green 2nd half either, the referee blowing for offside against us when it was no where near! The 2nd half started to fall in the favour of Hartlepool as time went on, they got the equaliser midway through with a good finish. 1-1 ⚽️

The lads gave it all, and as football sometimes does, it can bite you in the backside, Hartlepool managed to intercept a ball near our box with only minutes left, another brilliant finish gave them the lead1! 1-2 ⚽️

Not enough time for us to find another! When thinking about the game though, I am sure the full squad would agree with this - we would rather go out on our sword, playing the way we want to play, which we did!

Well done Hartlepool on your quest for promotion!

Well done lads on showing, yet again, we can and will compete with any team in this league!
