You all know me as the Founder and owner of Moveology, so here's what movement has taught me about managing my mental health.

People often think I exercise because I own a studio.

The truth is... I move because it helps me cope with life!

As a business owner, therapist, instructor, wife and mum, life can feel full. Some days, my to-do list is endless, my mind is racing, and the last thing I feel like doing is exercise.

But I've learnt something over the years...

πŸ’› I never regret moving.

For me, exercise isn't about burning calories or chasing the "perfect" body anymore.

It's my reset button.

Here's what genuinely helps me:

🌿 Walk inside or outside first thing. Movement with a window open or outside allows the fresh air and natural light to help clear my head and set me up for the day.

πŸ’ͺ Strength train. Lifting weights makes me feel strong, capable, resilient and confident, not just physically, but mentally too.

🧘 Move even when motivation is low. I don't always do a full workout. Sometimes 20 minutes or a volume-loaded session is enough to change my mindset.

🍎 Fuel my body properly. Eating enough protein and nourishing meals gives me the energy to cope with busy days. And yes... I enjoy the treats too, for balance.

πŸ’€ Protect my sleep. Everything feels harder when I'm tired.

❀️ Remember that movement is a privilege, not a punishment.

Exercise won't solve every problem, and it's not a replacement for professional support when you need it.

But it can be one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce stress, improve mood, build resilience and remind ourselves that we're doing something positive for both our body and mind.

Some days you'll feel amazing.
Some days you'll simply show up.

Both count.

This World Mental Health Day, be kind to yourself.

Move because you deserve to feel good, not because you think you have to.

πŸ’š Your mental health matters as much as your physical health.

Feel Better. Move Better. Live Stronger.

From postnatal Reformer… to hockey, CrossFit and feeling strong again πŸ’š

When Helen first came to Moveology, she’d recently had her little boy, Jasper, and wanted some support getting back into movement and fitness.

Fast forward a year and Moveology has become part of much more than that journey.

From postnatal Reformer and pelvic health support to sports massage, acupuncture, EMS and helping with those little niggles that come from work, training and everyday life, it’s all been about helping Helen keep doing the things she loves.

And somewhere along the way, she found a pretty lovely community too. 🫢

We absolutely love hearing what Moveology means to the people who walk through our doors.

Thank you, Helen, for sharing your story, and for trusting us to be part of it. πŸ’š

πŸ’› Postnatal Recovery PART 2

It looks different than it did 20 years ago...

More women are having babies later in life than ever before.

This means many new mums are not only recovering from pregnancy and birth; they may also be navigating the early stages of perimenopause, where hormone levels are already beginning to fluctuate.

Pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period bring huge hormonal changes. Add the early changes of perimenopause, sleep deprivation, work, family life and recovery, and it's no surprise that many women don't quite feel like themselves.

You may notice:
✨ Lower energy
🧠 Brain fog
πŸ’ͺ Reduced strength
😴 Poor sleep
❀️ Changes in mood
🦴 A body that feels different

That's why postnatal recovery isn't about "bouncing back."

It's about rebuilding.

At Moveology, our Postnatal classes focus on:
πŸ’› Reconnecting with your core and pelvic floor
πŸ’› Building strength safely
πŸ’› Improving posture and movement
πŸ’› Supporting your recovery at your own pace
πŸ’› Helping you feel confident in your body again

Every woman's journey is different, and your recovery deserves time, patience and the right support.

Because becoming stronger after having a baby isn't about getting your old body back...

It's about building a body that's ready for everything motherhood has to offer.

Feel Better. Move Better. Live Stronger.

πŸ’œ Hey Lottie, why am I suddenly putting weight on around my middle?

If you're in your 40s or 50s and finding your clothes fit differently, you're not imagining it.

During perimenopause and menopause, levels of oestrogen begin to decline. Oestrogen plays an important role in regulating where we store body fat, maintaining muscle mass and supporting insulin sensitivity. As levels fall, the body is more likely to store fat around the abdomen rather than the hips and thighs.

At the same time, we naturally lose muscle mass (known as sarcopenia) as we age. Because muscle is more metabolically active than fat, having less muscle means we burn fewer calories at rest, making it easier to gain weight if we don't adapt our lifestyle.

The good news? There are things you can do to help.

πŸ’ͺ Strength train 2 to 3 times per week to maintain muscle, support your metabolism and protect bone health.

πŸ₯© Prioritise protein with every meal to help preserve muscle and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

🚢 Move daily; walking, Pilates, cycling and mobility work all support overall health and energy expenditure.

😴 Prioritise sleep and manage stress. Poor sleep and elevated cortisol can increase cravings and encourage fat storage around the middle.

πŸ₯— Focus on consistency, not restriction. Extreme dieting often leads to further muscle loss, making long-term weight management even harder.

Remember, menopause isn't about fighting your body; it's about understanding how it's changing and giving it the support it needs.

πŸ’› You don't need to eat less or exercise more... you need the right strategy for this stage of life.

Feel Better. Move Better. Live Stronger.

Same movement. Different challenge. πŸ‘€

The Arm Float is a great example of how we can adapt a Reformer exercise to suit different levels of strength, control and experience.

🀎 BEGINNER
Think: Build the foundations
β€’ More resistance for support
β€’ No range of movement from the hips
β€’ Focus on shoulder positioning & control
β€’ Learn to keep the ribs and pelvis stable
β€’ Slow, controlled movement

🀎 INTERMEDIATE
Think: Challenge your control
β€’ Increased range of movement from the hips and neck
β€’ Less resistance
β€’ Greater demand on your core
β€’ Maintain shoulder control as the arms move
β€’ Less reliance on momentum

🀎 ADVANCED
Think: Strength + stability under challenge
β€’ Less resistance and more lever load from the legs
β€’ Larger range of movement
β€’ Increased core and shoulder stability demands
β€’ More complex movement combinations
β€’ Control the carriage don't let it control you!

✨ The goal isn't simply to do the β€œhardest” version.

It's about finding the version that challenges YOUR body at the right level.

At Moveology, we can adapt and progress exercises so you can keep building strength, control and confidence whatever your starting point.

Different bodies. Different levels. One movement. 🀎
