Smashin' news for the Toon!
We’re proper o’er the moon to tell ye all that our very own Abbie Potts has stepped up to become Vice Chair of Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby!

Abbie’s been an absolute belter on the court, reppin’ the lasses, and keepin’ the whole squad in stitches. Now she’s takin’ charge off the court too, helpin’ us lead the club into its next big chapter! From grafting hard in training to taking home 'Best in Class' trophies, she’s proper Geordie through and through and shows what our smashin' club is all aboot: hard graft, togetherness, and a crackin' good laugh.

Whether ye’ve never sat in a rugby chair in yer life or ye’re dead keen to get back into team sports, ye’ll get a proper warm Geordie welcome here. We’re specially lookin' to get new wheelchair rugby players through the door, WR5s players, and we’d love to see more women and girls havin’ a crack!

If playing’s not yer thing but ye still want to be part of the team, it’d be total mint if ye came on board as a volunteer! We’re always after handy folk and friendly faces to help players in and oot of chairs, change tyres and inner tubes, fix up the kit, or just look after the club gear.

OUR WILL’S ONLY GONE AND WON A NATIONAL AWARD! 🏆⭐ AND GOT A BARBARIANS BADGE ON A ROYAL JACKET! 👑🛞

A massive congratulations to Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby player Will Messer, who has been named WellChild’s Inspirational Child (7-11) Award winner.

Will, who plays for the Berserkers and captains the Northern Junior Academy, picked up the national award in recognition of his incredible determination and achievements.

As part of the celebrations, Will met Prince Harry and presented him with a Newcastle Barbarians pin badge.

Later in the evening, eagle-eyed viewers spotted the Barbarians badge proudly sitting on Prince Harry’s lapel during the awards ceremony. Not many people can say they’ve managed to get a Barbarians badge onto a prince’s jacket! 😆

To top it all off, Will had his Prince Harry Funko Pop signed and spent time chatting about gaming and wheelchair rugby.

We’re proper proud of Will. He’s a cracking ambassador for wheelchair rugby, the Berserkers, the Northern Junior Academy and the whole Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby family.

Howay the lads and lasses! Look at wor Berserkers lookin’ proper mint!

Howay man, check out wor little legends – the Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby junior team, the mighty Berserkers! The lush folk o’er at Arnold Clark have backed the club proper, hookin’ the bairns up with brand-new trainin’ vests, water bottles, and a full stack o’ cones. The bairns look class and are dead excited to get stuck into trainin’! Big up to Arnold Clark for championin’ the Toon community and helpin’ wor young uns shine.

Wheelchair rugby is fast, full-on, and pure belter fun for the whole family. We’re on a big push to grow wor Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby family and we want YE to be part o’ it!

Who we’re after:
New Players: We’re lookin’ for new wheelchair rugby and WR5s players! We’re dead keen to get more women and lasses to come have a go.
Volunteers: Prefer to lend a hand off the court? We need general helpers, folk to look after equipment, assist players gettin’ in and oot o’ their chairs, and handy sorts for chair maintenance, tyre changes, and fixin’ inner tubes.
Whether ye want to play, help oot, or just see what it’s all aboot, come on down to wor sessions right here in Newcastle!

The wait is over. Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby has confirmed the 12 athletes who will represent GB at the 2026 World Wheelchair Rugby World Championships in São Paulo, Brazil.

With a blend of experienced internationals and exciting emerging talent, this squad is ready to take on the world's best as they continue their journey towards LA 2028.
