Under 12s vs Bank Quay Bulls

Our under 12s made the short trip into Warrington on Sunday to face Bank Quay who are the closest chasers to our current 3rd position in the league.

The coaches were keen for the lads to take their defensive efforts from last week into the match and that’s exactly what they did.

The early moments saw position turned over cheaply by both sides, as both teams looked to take control of the game.
Storm were guilty of trying to over play when we had good field position and that resulted in a shakey start, however, our defence shone once again and we continued to build pressure.
That pressure was finally put to good use when we found some space on the edges and managed to bag a try followed quickly by a second after an impressive few carries by our middles to close out the first half.

With Storm ahead at the break we asked the lads to try and have a little more composure and trust that we don’t need to score with every play.

The second half saw much better ball handling with us moving the ball brilliantly and effectively, and completing our sets.
Storm continued to press and were rewarded with 3 more try’s and coming away with the win.

Most pleasing for the coaches was another game without conceding a try which shows how well they have worked in defence.

Match Review: Newton Storm U16s 4 – 28 Halton Farnworth Hornets U16s

An entertaining, hard-fought contest at U16 level saw Halton Farnworth Hornets take the honours in a fast-paced, end-to-end battle, though Newton Storm U16s showed plenty of fight and quality throughout the full 60 minutes.

First Half: Storm Fly Out the Blocks

Newton Storm made a blistering start to the game, settling far quicker than their visitors and taking the lead early on. Zach was the star of the opening exchanges, crossing the line for a well-earned try that put Storm 4–0 up and the home side firmly in the ascendancy.

Far from folding, Halton Farnworth Hornets responded with real resolve. They grew into the contest, finding their rhythm and mounting a series of attacking threats in reply. The game quickly became a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with both sides trading territory and attacking chances in equal measure. As the half progressed, Hornets’ pressure told, and they ran in two tries to turn the tide. At the interval, it was Halton Farnworth Hornets leading 10–4 — a tight, well-poised game with everything still to play for.

Second Half: Tight Contest, Hornets Pull Clear

The second period picked up exactly where the first left off: end-to-end rugby, no side able to claim sustained dominance, and both teams throwing everything into every set. Storm continued to battle bravely, defending stoutly and searching constantly for a breakthrough to claw their way back into the match.

Hornets, however, showed great composure and patience to weather the Storm fightback. They kept their structure, capitalised on key moments in the game, and added further points to their tally as the half wore on. Despite Newton’s relentless effort, the visitors’ extra attacking punch proved decisive, and they eventually ran out 28–4 winners. The scoreline doesn’t fully reflect how close this game was — Storm were in the fight right until the final whistle.

Standout Performances & Awards

It was a strong team performance from Storm, with three players earning special recognition for their contributions:

- ⭐ Opponents’ Man of the Match: Aaron — caught the eye of the Hornets coaching staff with his defensive work, powerful runs, and all-round effort across the pitch.

- 🏅 Coaches’ Man of the Match: Zach — not only made the crucial breakthrough early, but led from the front with energy, commitment, and skill in both attack and defence.

- 👏 Parents’ Man of the Match: Tom — earned the supporters’ vote for his tireless work rate, strong tackling, and never-say-die attitude in both halves.
