When your mind is racing, try stepping onto the riverbank.
A simple visualization to practice observation over reaction:
☕️ The River = Your thoughts
☕️ The Current = Your state of mind
☕️ The Riverbank = Your space to observe
Instead of fighting the current, step outside of it and become the observer. Pay attention, watch it flow, and notice how stepping aside can create change.

You already know the answer to this question. I think we all know the answer. It’s probably quicker for me to summarise this post by saying “PUT THE PHONE DOWN”. But that feels a little blunt. 😉
We all say we’re unwinding, end up scrolling for two hours, and wonder why we’re still exhausted.
Swipe through for what actual, nervous-system-approved rest looks like.

Balancing corporate IT management alongside a yoga business meant I was constantly switching between two identities: Corporate Sam and Yoga Sam. Without clear lines, they bled into each other, and I was heading straight for burnout.
Everything changed when I drew a line in the sand and closed my corporate laptop at 4:00 PM. Holding that boundary gave me the space to decompress, making me better at my day job. I soon realized I had to apply the same rule to my yoga business to avoid burnout.
By setting these boundaries with both of my identities, I built the foundation to sustain them both.

You don't need a yoga mat to release tension during a long workday.
If you are trapped at your desk, you can easily execute these subtle movements right from your chair without anyone even noticing.

Think of your nervous system like a pressure gauge.
When you face a deadline, a tough workout, or a stressful moment, your sympathetic tone naturally increases. The needle moves up into the high-pressure zone. That is not a design flaw. An adaptable nervous system is built to handle spikes in pressure.
The trouble starts when the needle gets stuck there.
A healthy, resilient system knows how to release the valve, decrease that sympathetic tone, and bring the dial back down to a balanced baseline. True regulation isn't about avoiding the high-pressure zone entirely. It is about trusting your body's ability to vent the steam and find zero again.
