Match report - OPHELIAS FINAL PRESEASON FRIENDLY

Horden Ophelias vs Birtley Town

Tonight saw the penultimate friendly before the new season kicks off. The Ophelias fresh from a fantastic tournament performance at the weekend took on Birtley in an entertaining game with 2 good sides.

Reeny, my midfield maestro was on top form once again and bossed the centre of the park she unselfishly created 2 assists and grabbing 1 herself.

Ariana, solid at the back and reliable as ever, her never give up attitude was the difference of us winning and loosing tonight.

Lucy was class tonight, showing her fitness getting up and down the field defensively and offensively grabbing her first goal for the Ophelias with smart finish into the bottom corner after keeping calm in the box while under pressure.

Hannah played a different role for me tonight when I asked her to play a CDM role. Hannah took it in her stride showing her defencive prowess along with long distance shooting ability.

Sophia was solid once again, in midfield and further up top grabbing the winner in the last 5 mins of the match. Sophia is showing big improvements in her all round game.

Libby once again showed class in midfield, her passing and link up play with the other girls impacted the game in our favour on numerous occasions and she was quite often our release when the team was under pressure.

Due to us having 2 keepers I started the game with Lexi, Lexi made a couple crucial saves in the first half and showed bravery coming off her line to collect the ball.
Second half was Georgia's turn to shine, we become under increasing pressure in the second half as Birtley fought their way into the game but Georga stood tall and kept us in the game multiple times.

Rosie and Sophie coming back from their holidays were thrown into the game before half time. Both players linked up well together finding eachother multiple times with some really good link up plays. Rosie's confidence running with the ball is coming on really well attacking the defence. Sophie did what she does best and when she picks up the ball always gets her head up and passes forward to get the team up the pitch.

Tonight was another fantastic performance all round. We are really gelling as a team and I couldnt be more proud of each and every one of them. The attitude and focus to stay in the game when in a loosing position goes to show how good they really are.

We have some absolutely FANTASTIC news for our girls section!

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from the Barclays Community Sport Fund, being delivered in partnership with Sported.

The Barclays Community Sport Fund offers grants, training and support resources to help reduce inequalities in sport – with a focus on football, tennis and cricket. The fund supports community groups and grassroots sports organisations (like ours) who make sport more accessible to young people from underrepresented groups.

Sported is the UK’s leading grassroots sports charity. They deliver funding and support to a network of more than 5,000 clubs and community groups – strengthening communities and transforming the lives of over a million people each year.

We are delighted to now be able to offer all girls winter training kit (coats) with this fantastic support! This takes huge pressure off each of the girls teams inn trying to locate funding for this.

Our thoughts from everyone involved with Horden CW Girls remain with these two officers.

As a football family we can’t imagine the heart break their families are going through.

Leaving for work to not return is not something you would ever imagine happening to you.

Yesterday our Ophelia’s attended wellfield for a tournament hosted by Shincliffe Football Club.

Adam & Chris were both Incredibly proud of the team whom all performed outstanding. Every player giving it their all, showing resilience and determination.

The Ophelia’s got to the final, a fantastic achievement sadly losing at the final, but never the less an incredible day and they should all be proud of playing their part in this achievement.

Well done Girls!

Yesterday Our Hestia’s played their part in a tournament at Wellfield hosted by Shincliffe Football Club,

The girls came up against some very good teams and played their hearts out with only 9 players throughout the day.

It might not be the results they wanted but a great day for them and lots of minutes in legs!

Player of the tournament for the hestias was Nirvana! 🏆

Match Report - PRESEASON - ELECTRAS

CLOSE GAME ENDS IN DEFEAT.

The Electras played extremely well against another top team in Pre Season friendly. The first half was end to end with good chances for both teams. The Seaton Carew youngsters took the lead with a tremendous reverse pass onto their striker who slotted home nicely. The Electras hit back almost immediately with a well worked move from training ground that Ella ran through and with a world class finish scored into the bottom corner. The opposition then scored against run of play to make it 2-1 but again the girls scored a good goal from a corner routine. Eva’s cross was put in by Ella again to make it 2-2.

The 2nd half started well with Electras having a couple of good chances where their keeper made some smart saves. Unfortunately the left winger for the Carew girls was in fine form and scored a couple of good goals. The Electras never gave up and Eva in the middle of the park who covered every blade of grass last night pressed the opponents and forced an error which freed Ella again to take a great touch and blast it past their keeper. The whole team now pushing to score again were unlucky to concede another couple on the break and the Darcy pulled a worldy save out the bag to keep the girls in the game. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the goals to level the game but it was a really spirited performance that the girls should be proud of.
Hat trick for Ella was amazing to see. Great effort by all of the girls. 😎
