Wrekenton V Durham Coast match report

After facing each other in a heated game 3 weeks ago, we made the journey over to Wrekenton for the reverse league fixture.

In the home game we started really slowly so we set out to ensure we didn’t repeat this. From the first whistle you could see that it was going to be a battle with a few early freekicks given.
Luckily we have settled into the game a lot better this time and on 5 minutes we created the first opening of the game. A quick 1-2 in our own half has released Ollie who has fed the ball down the channel for Emmett to latch onto. Emmett has beat the defence down the wing and pulled a great ball across the box to Alfie, whose effort was blocked well by their defender.
The lads continued to try to get the ball down on a poor pitch against a team that were determined to make the game as scrappy as possible.
Midway through the half we went forward down the left and worked the ball well across the edge of the box to Kellan who has struck a shot from distance just over the bar.
Next it was Isaacs turn to go close, as we worked the ball well down the right and a nice ball inside by Will has found Isaac free from 20 yards but his shot has gone just wide.
Right on half time we were lucky not to concede, as a long ball forward has beat our back line and their forward has fired a shot off the inside of the post! The ball has luckily span along the line and out for a goal kick.

Half time 0-0!

Second half started much the same as the first, we were trying to attack and they were disrupting it with niggly fouls.
The opening 15 of the half there was nothing of note that happened as the ball spent a lot of the time in the middle of the pitch with both teams breaking up each others attacks before they got started!
As we entered the final quarter of the game, it felt as though it was going to take 1 goal for either team to win which made it really frantic.
Firstly it was our turn to attack. After winning pressing high to win a corner, the resulting kick into the box has caused chaos. Ollie has retrieved the ball at the back post and fired into the 6 yard box, their defender has fired it at Emmett, whose shot has been saved and then from a tight angle Alfie has hit the side netting.
Just as it looked as though we might knick the win, Wrekenton went long and were 4 v 3. Thankfully our back line covered round for each other to s***f out the attack and clear the ball.
As we entered the final 2 minutes, we were still pressing to create one more chance, and thankfully we were rewarded for our endeavours. Following some great play by Ollie feeding Isaac in, his shot was cleared to Ollie just inside their box. Ollie has shielded the ball well and just as he was about to roll the defender, he has been pulled back at shoulder height. Que the refs whistle and 30 seconds of confusion, as he’s blowing he has pointed Wrekentons away by mistake! This was quickly corrected and he pointed to the spot, much to the disagreement of the Wrekenton players!
After 2 penalty shootout wins, we have never been so confident! Ollie has picked himself up to take it and fired bottom corner off the post to make it 0-1 with the last kick of the game!

Full time 0-1!

⚽️Ollie

MOTM - Will - Absolute rock at the back again this morning. Positionally sound, stepped in when needed, covered across well and most importantly won his battle with their most dangerous player. 👏🏻👏🏻

Durham coast V whiteleas match report

Following yesterday’s great penalty shootout win in the league cup, the lads were back in action today with a county cup tie at home to Whiteleas South Shields.

With no subs and a few carrying knocks, we set out to try to get the ball down to play and avoid getting into a battle. That plan immediately went out the window following a mix up at the back allowing the whiteleas striker to nip in front of Theo to poke the ball home, 0-1!

Not the start we were hoping for, but the lads reacted positively and went close from the restart when Alfie has fired from distance just over the bar.
The lads continued pressing for an equaliser and it was Alfie again catching a half volley from the edge of the box drawing another save from their keeper.

We continued to push forward for the next 10 minutes, with Emmett, Alfie and Isaac all going close from distance.

The game was one way traffic and continued that way even when we were a player down for the final 10 of the half following an injury, we just couldn’t find a deserved equaliser.

Half time 0-1!

With a full team back on the pitch for the start of the second half, we looked to target the wide areas where Ollie and Alfie were getting a lot of space.

Ten minutes into the half we were rewarded for our efforts with an equaliser. Some good work down the left by Ollie has saw him square the ball to Emmett, who has taken a touch out of his feet and fired in off the post from 20 yards! 1-1!

Having worked so hard to get back level, the lads went for it for the remainder of the game. Kellan has gone close with 2 volleys from distance, Isaac has fired just past the post and Alfie has shot just over from distance.

We restricted Whiteleas to going long, but our backline and Theo were switched on to everything. We were hunting in packs and were celebrating winning the tackles as much as we had the goal, which was brilliant to see and demonstrated the spirit these lads have!

Full time 1-1!

Unfortunately we couldn’t make the vital breakthrough so for the second time this weekend we went to penalties!

Ollie has stepped up first and just like yesterday, calmly slotted into the corner, 1-0

Whiteleas striker to take their first, and just like yesterday, Theo has read where it was going and pulled off an excellent save, 1-0

Up next for us was Alfie, cool as you like he’s passed it into the corner to make it 2-0!

Whiteleas next pen gave Theo no chance, 2-1!

Following the same order as yesterday, Emmett was next, 2 steps and placed into the corner, 3-1!

Again, Whiteleas player has given Theo no chance to make it 3-2!

Up next was skipper Kellan, who again has put it right in the corner giving the keeper no chance, 4-2!

Whiteleas centre half took their next to keep them in the shootout and has finished well to make it 4-3!

Following another solid performance, Centre back Jen has stepped up to take the final kick and has buried it into the bottom corner to win us the game! 5-3!

MOTM - Emmett - Never gave the whiteleas back line a second to settle, worked back to win the ball when we were down to 8 and was rewarded with an excellent goal from distance!

With only 1 sub yesterday, zero today and several of the lads carrying knocks, the effort they’ve put in these two games has been remarkable and they’ve fully deserved both wins!

Wynyard village vs Durham Coast match report

This morning we made the short trip down the a19 to face an in form Wynyard team from the division below.

After slow starts in our opening 3 games, the opening exchanges this morning were a little scrappy which gave us the opportunity to settle into the game.
We created our first chance 10 minutes in when Emmett has slid a ball through to Isaac who’s first time shot has gone just over the bar.
On 15 minutes Emmett has gone close beating the offside trap, but his shot has gone just wide of the post.
After a couple more half chances, we finally made the breakthrough with 5 minutes remaining of the first half. A long throw in from Will down the right was flicked on by Isaac and Alfie has caught it on the half volley to fire straight into the bottom corner, 0-1!
Buoyed with confidence, Alfie went close again right on half time when he has caught a volley from 25 yards that has just gone over the bar!

Half time 0-1!

Second half saw Wynyard start quickly and with us kicking towards the sun, they decided to target the long ball over the top. 5 minutes into the second half, a long clearance by their keeper has bounced over back line and their forward has latched onto it, luckily Theo was alert and made a great save to turn the ball out for a corner.
From the resulting kick, we have managed to clear it to the edge of the box, only for the Wynyard midfielder to hit a rocket that Theo could only manage to tip into the corner of the net, 1-1!
Wynyard continued to go long, but our back line dropped a little deeper and dealt with everything they threw at us.
Up the other end, we went close a couple more times with a long distance effort from Will and Alfie again firing just wide.
The final 10 was a little cagey with neither team and wanting to lose which saw the game peter out.

Full time 1-1!

Penalties;

With it being a cup game, it had to be settled today with a 3 kick penalty shootout.

Wynyard won the toss and decided to go first.

Their star player has stepped up confidently, only for Theo to make a cracking save to push it wide.

First up for us for Ollie, who has stepped up to fire into the roof of the net, 0-1!

There was a bit of controversy with Wynyards second penalty. The striker has stepped up and Theo has made another great save with his feet turning it over the bar. However, the referee had judged Theo had come off his line so ordered a retake!
Second time round the striker has finished into the middle of the goal, 1-1

Next up was Alfie, cool as you like has passed it into the bottom corner, 1-2

Wynyard needing to score saw their fullback step up and confidently place the ball into the bottom corner, 2-2

It was down to Emmett with the deciding kick. Sticking to his usual routine, he has taken 2 steps back and struck it straight into the bottom corner to seal the win, 2-3

Full time 1-1
(Durham coast win 3-2 on pens)

MOTM - Joint award this week

Jen - Reads the game so well and didn’t give their striker a sniff all game. Stepped out to play when he could to drive us forward as well.

Will - Bullied their winger throughout using his strength, calm on the ball playing out, and was a threat going forward, narrowly firing wide from distance

Belmont Eagles Vs Durham Coast match report

After last weekends narrow victory, we were back on the road this morning to face a Belmont team who we had a competitive friendly with over the summer, so knew today wouldn’t be an easy game.

Kicking down the bank in the first half we started a lot quicker than we have the last couple of weeks and went close early as Emmetts fired wide following a through ball from Jack. The opening 10 minutes we were on the front foot and on 10 minutes Joseph has carried the ball into the box from the wing and as he was about to shoot, he has had his leg taken away winning us a penalty!
Emmett has stepped up and unfortunately put it just wide. Luckily this didn’t put Emmett off his game and moments later he was terrorising Belmont’s back line again, winning us a corner.
A wicked delivery by Ollie into the front post nearly caught the Belmont defence off guard, but they’ve somehow managed to scramble it clear.
The lads continued to push forward and got a deserved opener on 20 minutes. Bobby has won the ball back from their goalkick midway inside Belmonts half, he has drove down the line and squared it to Alfie who’s struck a shot that the keeper has palmed onto the crossbar, luckily Ollie had already got himself into a great position to tap home from 5 yards, 0-1!
Moments after taking the lead we quickly added a second. Some great battling in the middle of the park from Jack has saw him loop the ball over Belmonts back line where Ollie has timed his run perfectly, brought the ball down and calmly slotted past the onrushing keeper into the corner to make it, 0-2!
We went close again a couple times more before half time through efforts from Emmett and Jack, (& not so close from Ruben/Kellan! 😂)

Half time 0-2!

The aim of the second half was to kill the game early and we immediately went on the attack from kick off with Isaac winning the ball back following the press and feeding Ollie who has fired just over from a tight angle. The lads continued to push forward and were rewarded 10 minutes into the second half for their efforts.
Kellan playing out from the back has flicked it on to Isaac midway in their half, Isaac in turn has hooked it over their defence, and from nowhere Bobby has bent his run to stay onside and cooly lobbed the keeper with the outside of his right foot from the edge of the box to make it, 0-3!
At this point, the game was out of sight for Belmont and the lads started to enjoy themselves playing some lovely football.
Following some good build up down the right this time, we went close to adding a fourth as Bobby has beat their defender and fired a low shot off the post!
Next it was Jacks turn to go close, again pressing high we have won the ball back on the corner of the box and Jack has hit a first time curler just wide of the far upright.
With 5 minutes to go, Ollie has gone close to completing his hat-trick as he has broke down the right of the box but fired just past the far post.

Full time 0-3!

MOTM - Ollie - Playing in an unfamiliar wing back role, Ollie worked his socks off up and down the left, winning tackles going backwards and a constant threat going forwards. Was rewarded for his effort with 2 great goals!

Durham coast v Wrekenton match report.

After last weekends defeat, the lads were hoping to bounce back with a home fixture against a Wrekenton team who also lost their opening game.

The lads started really slow and were immediately on the back foot as their striker rounded Theo from the corner of the box, luckily Josh L got back to clear the shot off the line. You’d have thought that would be a wake up call for us, but we continued to panic and inevitably found ourselves a goal behind in the first 5 minutes as a strike from the edge of the box left Theo with no chance, 0-1!
The game then had a 10 minute scrappy spell where neither team could get hold of the ball.
After a couple of long range efforts from Ollie and Alfie both going narrowly over the bar.
On 20 minutes, we put together a great passing move down the right hand side that saw Bobby beat his defender and drive into the box, just as he was about to put in a cross, their defender pulled him down, winning us a penalty.
After watching Emmett practice penalties at training this week, I don’t think any of us doubted what the outcome would be. He has placed the ball down, took 3 steps and placed it into the bottom corner, 1-1!
With 2 minutes to go of the first half, we have won the ball back and hit Wrekenton on the counter attack. Ollie has picked the ball up midway inside our half and fed a great ball into the channel for Emmett to race onto. It looked as though his first touch had took him to wide but he has finished brilliantly into the far bottom corner to make it 2-1!

Half time 2-1!

The lads had the bit between their teeth and started the second half a lot brighter than the first. Within 5 minutes a throughball by Josh L has saw Emmett beat the offside trap to latch onto it, he’s calmly rounded the keeper and tapped in to make it 3-1!
This seemed to rattle Wrekenton and we continued to push for another goal. Two consecutive corners from the right has saw Isaac go close with a header that has hit the post, and then from the next corner, Jack has caught it on the volley only for the keeper to make a great save this time.
We weren’t to be denied a fourth however, and following some great work by Bobby, he has lifted the ball over their defence to Emmett who has rode the keepers challenge to tap into an empty net, 4-1.
Moments later we went close twice more, firstly Kellan has struck a low freekick from a tight angle that their keeper has managed to tip round the post. From the resulting corner, Kellan has picked out Ruben at the back post and his volley has somehow been saved again by their keeper!
The final 10 minutes became a battle following a couple of reckless kick outs from their midfielder that saw our lads react and lose concentration. With 5 minutes to go they’ve caught us over the top and their striker has lobbed Theo from the edge of the box, 4-2. In the final minute, we have switched off again and they’ve added another to make it 4-3!
Thankfully that was the last action of the game and we have our first 3 points on the board.

Full time 4-3!

⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️Emmett

MOTM- Emmett- He is an absolute handful for defenders with his pace and strength. Worked their back line tirelessly today and showed great composure when in front of goal with 4 excellent finishes.

Tonight we travelled over to Bowburn to face a strong New Durham Wasps U13s side.

In what turned into a really competitive battle, we unfortunately came out on the wrong side of a 4–1 defeat. Josh L grabbed our goal with a brilliant free‑kick.

But tonight wasn’t just about the football. Last week, Mark from Turnbull’s FC Clothing—our coat sponsor and New Durham’s kit supplier—sadly lost his wife Laura. As a mark of respect, both teams came together before kick‑off for a minute’s applause to honour her memory.

31/08/2026

The lads entered their first mid-level tournament today and were up against some top teams from across the northeast.

With 2 groups of 6, the tournament was formatted where the top 4 of each group went through to quarter finals.

In a tough group, the lads battled their way to 1 win, 3 draws and 1 defeat, which was enough to see us finish 4th in our group.

This meant we had to face the winner of the other group in the 1/4 final, a Brandon team that had walked their group, winning one 15 minute game 6-0!

We switched to 4 at the back to stifle them, and the gameplan worked to a tee as a great finish from Emmett from the edge of the box saw us win the game 1-0. Though it wasn’t without controversy as with the last kick Brandon had thought they’d scored, but Theo managed to hold the ball on the line, much to the protests of the Brandon coach that it was miles over.

Onto the semi final against a high level Foundation of light team playing a year up. We had faced these in the group stages and drew 1-1 so knew what to expect.

The lads were a lot more switched on in this game and completely nullified their attempts to play out with a good high press. It was this that won us the game as we have won the ball back high and it’s broken to Ollie. Just as he was bearing down on goal, their centre half nearly ripped his shirt off his back winning us a penalty. Ollie picked himself and stuck the pen into the roof of the net to win the game 1-0.

Onto the final against a Jarrow team that hadn’t lost a game all day, and had a centre half that I’m sure I saw drive himself home after the game!

The final was a tight affair with Jarrow going long and trying to utilise their height advantage at every opportunity. Midway through the second half, a toe punt from distance has caught us out given them a 1-0 lead. We decided to go for it in the last 5 and almost nicked a dramatic last minute equaliser when Alfie fired a half volley from distance that the keeper has tipped round the post in what was the last action of the game!

Gutted for the lads not to come away with a trophy for their efforts today, but so proud of how well they played against some top teams!
