Peterlee and Horden 2nds hosted West Hartlepool Rugby Football Club Stags in their opening home league fixture, looking to turn the tables after a close Pyman Cup Final defeat at the end of last season.
The lads were a little disappointed with their performance in their first ever RFU League game last week against Billingham and were looking to make amends.

With a good crowd watching on the lads put in a strong performance scoring 5 good try's to secure a bonus point victory while sending West Stags home pointless.
Our try's were scored by young back three player Jack Brown (Blue Scrum Cap) and veteran Scrum Half Neil Hartley with young Out Half Joseph Cox adding 8 points from the Tee.

This Saturday sees The Second Team at home again against Yarm RFC looking to build on last Saturdays win.

Get along to Eden Park the lads would love the support.

3pm KO.

What a return for Jack Brown to the Claret and Blue Hoops four try's and a Man of The Match Performance.

The lads popped down the coast road on their shortest trip of the season for a local derby against Hartlepool Rugby Club Old Boys. A strong travelling support in joining a big home support with it being the hosts family day to make a cracking atmosphere.
Peterlee and Horden in their traditional Claret and Blue Hoops, with Hartlepool being the MIBs and today’s official Mr Mark Piert Durham County Rugby Union Referees Society doing a Molly Ringwald. (Older readers will get it).
With Peterlee and Horden kicking off uphill towards the clubhouse with Kennedy going long and straight into the home 22. Hartlepool with the first attack after a good break from the home 9 but he is well tackled and with support slow to arrive Andy Wood wins a good penalty for holding on.
The first 15 minutes had failed to really get going but we were awarded a penalty just outside the home sides 5m line after a good burst from the skipper. From the penalty The forwards break through Chrissy taps but ships it wide to Walker, Millar with the clean out Pelser to Thubron at first receiver to Andy Wood on a short hard line to score under the Big Sticks. The returning Crake with the extra 2 points. 0 7
It wasn’t long before we extended our lead a penalty is kicked deep in to the Hartlepool 22 on the left flank a good drill finds Wood at the tail who pops it to Thubron on to Walker with a typical abrasive run punching a hole in the defensive line quick ball moved right Kennedy to Heckles to Fullback Crake into the line and straightening the attack before finding Wintersgill to score in the right corner excellent rugby. Crake with an excellent conversion 0 14.
The lads had been very good at stopping Hartlepool from getting any kind of field position but some slack play on two occasions saw us give away cheap penalties and from the resulting scrum just outside our 22 the Hartlepool No8 Riley picked and went and drove into midfield bumping S**a off no mean feat with a very powerful carry and going under the sticks to score. Easy conversion dispatched 7 14.
A deep kick off was sent out for a lineout to ourselves close to the Hartlepool 10 meter line on the left flank. From the lineout Thubron taking clean ball at the front and driving forward then big Andy with a good carry Pelser to Heckles finding Kennedy Crake again hitting the line and straightening tap tackled good clearing out Walker driving forward down the short side swatting a tackler out the way Pelser to Wood Senior again down the blind tempo quickening Pelser with a little dart back to the right then Greenlaw making more hard yards quick ball Pelser to Heckles putting Kennedy through a gap high tackle advantage with Andy Wood round the corner running straight over the Hartlepool Scrum Half to get his second of the afternoon more excellent rugby. Crake unsuccessful off the tee 7 19.
Hartlepool were soon caught offside and the Claret and Blue attack was starting to get up a head of steam from the resulting lineout just outside the 22 Wood found Wood who went through a gap in the lineout before a lovely one handed return pass found Wood rampaging down the left wing to score conversion missed 7 24 HT.
A good first half where we starved Hartlepool of any field position and scored four very good try’s up the hill.
Hartlepool getting the second half under way and a bit like the first it took a little bit of time to get going with the referee’s whistle constantly breaking the flow of the game. But from a scrum in our own half we click into gear The skipper picking from the base and shrugging off a couple of poor attempted tackles before being hauled down outside the 22 quick ball is fizzed away by Pelser to Heckles moved quickly to the 13 channel where S**a puts Crake away to finish in line with the right 5m line. Crake just pushing the conversion across the face of goal. 7 29.
Unfortunately the game again fell back into a broken affair with lots of penalties given away from both sides with Hartlepool battling hard to get back into the game.
Peterlee & Horden then put the game to bed from a lineout another good drill was taken on by the forwards quick ball from Pelser to Heckles out the back to Kennedy finding Crake straightening the attack as he had done all afternoon before feeding Jammy Cox to go in the right corner. Wintersgill missing from right on the touchline 7 34. Into the last 15 minutes with the lads looking to put a bit gloss on the victory.
The lads were back on the scoreboard once more and most of needed a blow as after Hartlepool had been penalised for not releasing Owens was asked to take a pot at goal and he sent it sailing through the middle of the goal. 7. 37
The next try came from a overthrown Hartlepool lineout on their 22 with Walker’s big left mit plucking a prickly pear from the sky one handed Balou style then rumbling forward quick ball to Thubron taken on then Miller picking driving forward Pelser to Heckles firing a superb pass taking out three defenders with substitute Owens flying on to it to score in the left corner. Another tough conversion missing this time from the left flank. 7. 42.
It wasn’t long before we extended our lead further a knock on in midfield was picked up by Chrissy Wood who pops it to Miller who boshes his way forward then Walker bashing further into the home half quick ball Pelser to Heckles fizzing a pass out which sees Owens taking the ball at pace showing great agility to take the ball way above his head before streaking clear to score cracking try. Owens putting the ketchup on his own meat pie. 7 49
The final try of the afternoon came from a counter attack a home clearing kick fielded by Owens before feeding Wintersgill weaving in field and driving forward again the forwards securing quick ball pass fired out by Pelser, Walker picking up the bouncing ball slipped to Heckles to fire another wide pass to the right to set Robinson streaking away to score in the right corner. Heckles unable to add the extra 2 points.

Fulltime : Hartlepool 7 Peterlee & Horden 54

A good performance from the lads against a spirited Hartlepool side that battled hard but who were never really given the opportunity to build up a head of steam in front of their vociferous home support. As for ourselves still more to come when we get it right we are very good but still a few to many times where we just let the standards drop.
Individually some very good performances with Crake making a very good return and was man of the match for me.

Man of The Match
But what do I know as it was the Skipper Chrissy Wood who picked up the man of the match award for a very good performance causing the home side all sorts of problems with his powerful carrying around the paddock.
