β Frequently Asked Thursday
𧽠What's the difference between cleaning and sanitising?
Many people use these terms interchangeably... but they're not the same.
π§Ό Cleaning
Removes visible dirt, dust, food residue and grease from a surface.
It makes things look clean, but it doesn't necessarily remove harmful germs.
π¦ Sanitising
Reduces bacteria and viruses on a surface using an approved sanitising product or heat, helping to make it safer to use.
π Training Tip: Cleaning should always come first. Dirt and grease can stop sanitisers from working effectively, so a surface should be cleaned before it's sanitised.
π Did you already know the difference, or is this something that surprises you?

β οΈ **Wednesday Myth vs Fact**
β **MYTH:** Health & Safety is just common sense.
β
**FACT:** Common sense is important, but it doesn't replace training, risk assessments or safe working procedures. Every workplace has unique hazards and legal responsibilities that require knowledge, planning and good practice.
Health & Safety isn't about stopping people from doing their jobs. It's about helping everyone go home safely at the end of the day.
π¬ **What's the biggest Health & Safety myth you've heard? Tell us in the comments.**
At **Southwest Training Solutions**, we help organisations build safer workplaces through engaging, practical Health & Safety training.

π **Wednesday Myth vs Fact**
β **MYTH:** You should put butter, toothpaste or ice directly onto a burn.
β
**FACT:** The best first aid for a burn is to cool it under **cool running water for at least 20 minutes**. Home remedies such as butter or toothpaste can trap heat, increase the risk of infection and make the injury worse.
Knowing the right first aid can make all the difference in an emergency.
π¬ **Did you know this was a myth? What other first aid myths have you heard?**
At **Southwest Training Solutions**, we provide accredited First Aid training that gives people the confidence and skills to respond when it matters most.
