🧼 MYTH vs FACT: Alcohol Hand Gel

❌ **MYTH:**
Alcohol hand gel kills all germs, so I can use it instead of washing my hands.

✅ FACT:
Alcohol hand gel does NOT kill all germs and isn't always a substitute for soap and water.

Alcohol-based hand rub is effective against many microorganisms, but **soap and water should be used when hands are visibly dirty or soiled, and is particularly important when norovirus is suspected or present.**

🤢 **Norovirus is the big one to remember:** alcohol hand gel should **not** be relied upon to prevent its spread.

🧠 Easy way to remember

**🧴 Hand gel = useful tool**
**🧼 Soap + water = essential when required**

And don't forget: **gloves don't replace hand hygiene either!** 🧤

❓ **“You can be sued for performing CPR or First Aid on a member of the public.”**

Is it a **MYTH** or a **FACT**? 🤔

❌ **MYTH!**

Fear of doing something wrong can make people hesitate in an emergency. But in the UK, it is **very unlikely** that someone acting in good faith to help another person would be held legally liable for an adverse outcome.

❤️ If someone needs CPR, doing something could help save their life.

📞 Call **999**
🫀 Start CPR if needed
🗣️ Follow the emergency call handler's instructions
🚑 Continue until professional help arrives or you're told to stop

❌ **MYTH:**
“You need proof before reporting a concern.”

✅ **FACT:**
You **do not need proof** to report a safeguarding concern. You only need a **reasonable concern** that something may be wrong.

🔎 It is **not your responsibility to investigate or prove what happened**. Investigations should be carried out by the appropriate authorities and safeguarding professionals.

Your role is simple: **recognise, respond, record and report.**

💡 **Remember:** If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait for proof before raising it.
