Fear of doing something wrong can make people hesitate in an emergency. But in the UK, it is **very unlikely** that someone acting in good faith to help another person would be held legally liable for an adverse outcome.

❤️ If someone needs CPR, doing something could help save their life.

🚑 Continue until professional help arrives or you're told to stop

✅ **FACT:**
You **do not need proof** to report a safeguarding concern. You only need a **reasonable concern** that something may be wrong.

🔎 It is **not your responsibility to investigate or prove what happened**. Investigations should be carried out by the appropriate authorities and safeguarding professionals.

Your role is simple: **recognise, respond, record and report.**

💡 **Remember:** If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait for proof before raising it.

✅ **FACT:** You don't need proof. If you have a **reasonable concern** that someone may be at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation, it's important to report it through the appropriate safeguarding procedures. It is the responsibility of the relevant authorities and safeguarding professionals to investigate concerns.

Staying silent because you're worried about "getting it wrong" could mean someone doesn't receive the help and protection they need.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and raising a concern could make all the difference.

❌ **MYTH:** Wearing disposable gloves means you don't need to wash your hands.

✅ **FACT:** Disposable gloves are an important part of infection prevention, but they don't replace good hand hygiene. Hands should always be cleaned **before putting gloves on and immediately after taking them off**. Gloves can develop tiny tears, become contaminated during use, and can transfer germs if they're removed incorrectly.

Good infection control isn't about relying on a single measure. It's about combining the right practices to help protect yourself, your colleagues and those in your care.

🤝 Prepare Before You Move

Before assisting someone to move, take 30 seconds to pause and ask yourself:

✔️ Is the environment safe?
✔️ Does the person understand what's happening?
✔️ Do I have the correct equipment?
✔️ Do I need another colleague to help?

Those few moments of planning can reduce the risk of injury for both you and the person you're supporting.

Training Tip: Safe moving starts long before anyone begins to lift or assist.
