Why do we practise swimming in a group? ๐
One of the biggest differences between pool swimming and open water racing is the environment. Youโre not just managing the conditions, youโre also learning to swim confidently with people all around you.
Thatโs why our group sea sessions include race-specific skills like pack starts and drafting.
๐ Pack starts help you become comfortable with swimmers around you, so you can stay relaxed, hold your line, and make good decisions when the pace increases.
๐โโ๏ธ Drafting is a valuable open water skill that allows you to swim more efficiently by using the slipstream of another swimmer, helping you conserve energy for later in your race.
These are skills that are difficult to develop on your own but can make a real difference to your confidence and performance on race day.

Strength and conditioning isnโt about getting bigger. Itโs about becoming a stronger, more efficient and more resilient swimmer.
Every session in our programme follows the same structure, with each element designed to support your swimming.
โ
Prehab to improve resilience and reduce the risk of injury.
โ
Mobility to help you move more efficiently and achieve stronger positions in the water.
โ
Swimming-specific strength work to develop the force you can apply through every stroke.
โ
Core development to improve stability and transfer power more effectively.
The goal isnโt to become a powerlifter. Itโs to help you get more from every pool session and ultimately become a faster, more robust swimmer.
Like swimming, strength takes time. Nothing happens overnight. Our programme is built around three sessions each week, designed to complement your pool training and support consistent, long-term progress. Most athletes notice improvements in movement quality and confidence within 4โ6 weeks, but lasting results come from showing up week after week. Stay consistent, trust the process, and the results will follow.
Our online Strength & Conditioning programme is currently available for just ยฃ10 per month. This introductory price will end at the end of the season.
If youโre ready to support your swimming, reduce your risk of injury and build strength that transfers into the water, drop me a DM with โS&Cโ to find out more.
First session with us for Kirsty, who is preparing for an Ironman later this year. ๐ช๐โโ๏ธ
During this session we focused on developing better hip rotation to create a longer, more efficient stroke.
Good hip rotation allows swimmers to reach further with each stroke, engage the larger muscles of the core and back, and reduce unnecessary drag through the water. The result is improved efficiency, meaning you can maintain your pace while using less energy.
For long-distance events like an Ironman, efficiency is everything. The less energy you waste in the swim, the more you have available for the bike and run.
A great first session. Small technical improvements made now can make a significant difference over the 3.8km swim. Great work Kirsty. ๐

The sea can change in minutes.
This morning started with calm water, clear skies, and excellent visibility. Less than an hour later, sea mist rolled in and visibility changed dramatically.
Itโs a reminder that open water swimming isnโt just about fitness and technique. Understanding the environment, assessing conditions, and making safe decisions are essential skills for every sea swimmer.
At ACE Swimming, sea sessions donโt just develop stronger swimmers; they develop more knowledgeable and confident open water athletes who learn how to read conditions and respect the environment theyโre swimming in.
The sea is an incredible place to swim, but it always deserves respect. ๐
