Saturday 13th June Thorpe 1st XI v Bullcroft Main 1st XI
With a cyclone blowing through (at least it felt like one), Captain Roughley won the toss & elected to field first!
Bullcroft Innings
Tricky bowling conditions & not a great start in the field, an edge dropped in the first over followed in the first 18 overs by several other missed chances, put Bullcroft on a good start, adding to the dodgy fielding a ‘debatable’ run out, including possibly the first time the phrase ‘you’re well short’ will have been used to describe the Bullcroft opener. First wicket to fall finally came in the 19th over, S Hibbett (80) b J Lavery, Bullcroft 99/1 & off to a flyer. Joe then replicated the first wicket in his next over, bowling J Dixon (0), repeating this agin, for his 3rd over in a row bowling O Collins (15), 104/3, Joe finishing with 3/42 from a good 10 overs. Roughers took over from Joe to fill a couple of overs before Camilla could return, taking a wicket with the last ball of his first over, M Williamson (13) c S Whitehall, 138/4, swiftly followed by 1 for Chaz M Geary (17)
bowled, 138/5. Bullcrofts final 5 wickets fell for 38 runs with Chamila taking 4, in a cracking second spell of the day, D Lovett (1) b C Wijesinghe, C Harvey (12) b C Wijesinghe, D Birkett (5) c U Malik b C Wijesinghe & A Collins (5) c J Evans b C Wijesinghe, with Faulkner taking the other wicket R Bishop (7) b M Faulkner. Bullcroft finish on 176 all out!
Chamila Wijesinghe - 9.5 overs 1 maiden 4/36
Joe Lavery - 10 overs 1 maiden 3/42
Scott Hibbett - 80 runs from 63 balls with 12 x 4’s & 1 x 6
Thorpe Innings
Joining usual opener Roughers at the crease was myself, we got off to a decent start, 55 runs from the first 10 overs, reaching the 19th over before the first wicket fell, C Roughley (25) lbw M Williamson, unfortunately soon followed by C Abel (0) also lbw M Williamson, from 75/0 to 74/2. Charlie Wentworth the new batter in brought us to 94 in the 24th before being bowled by S Hibbett (9), 94/3 & then 96/4, M Faulkner (55) b M Williamson. A couple of late cameos came from Jamie Evan’s & Usmaan Malik to help Thorpe reach 150 all out, J Mulhern (1) b S Hibbett, J Raynor (4) c O Collins b D Lovett, J Lavery (0) b D Lovett, J Evans (21) c O Collins b D Lovett, U Malik (17) b D Birkett, C Wijesinghe (4) ro (O Collins), leaving Thorpe 26 runs short of the target.
Matthew Faulkner - 55 from 80 balls with 4 x 4’s & 1 x 6’s
Chris Roughley - 25 from 47 balls with 3 x 4’s
Jamie Evans - 21 from 18 balls with 1 x 4 & 2 x 6’s

Not the result we wanted, some tricky conditions for our bowlers & fielding well below our usual standards unfortunately had a big impact on the result! On to the next one & back to winning ways!!
This week sees the first travel to Hirst Courtney to face Batley 3rd XI & the 2’s travel to Ryhill to play Frickey 3rd XI, no home games this week unfortunately but plenty of cricket to watch if you fancy a trip out to support the lads!

For those that missed it, lads from Thorpe Audlin Cricket Club, Football XL and Wakefield Wideboys worked together to host a charity football tournament at Thorpe Audlin Sports Field on Sunday. It was an incredible day out which has received immense amounts of positive feedback from players and Thorpe locals.
The charity tournament was a testimonial for an incredible man many of you know called Martyn Broom, who was there in person to oversee the entire event. It was great to see him, his wife and his two lads who also played in the tournament.
I’d also personally like to thank the ladies from Hope & Anchor Fc who volunteered to run the bbq and the bar. They saved the day and I can’t thank them enough ♥️
Thanks to everyone’s incredible generosity we have managed to raise a grand total of:
£2862
This money will be split between Cancer Research UK and The Brain Tumour Charity
Extra donations can be made here:

Brain cancer currently receives only 2% of all cancer research funding and the standard treatment of tumour extraction (craniotomy) followed by radiotherapy then chemotherapy hasn’t changed much in 20 years. Hence, the reason for Martyn’s choice in donating to The Brain Tumour Charity. Thank you to everyone for your kind donations.
Donate to Martyn Broom, organized by Alex Briggs Hi all, one of our players (Martyn Broom) has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour. But he’s a fight… Alex Briggs needs your support for Martyn Broom

Saturday 6th June Thorpe 1st XI v Newton Hill 1st XI
Morning rain & a few sore heads threatened to prevent play but thankfully with some work a wicket was ready & the game going ahead! Newton Hill won the toss & knowing there may be a few hangovers in the Thorpe XI decided to field first!
Thorpe Innings
We feared the worst when in the first over Captain Roughley fell for 2 runs to one that nipped back b B Pappachan. Run scoring was fairly steady, on a wicket offering a bit for the bowlers & bowling a good line/length Thorpe were 20/2 in the 10th over when Jack Unwin was out on 10 b A Raghav. With Chaz & Evo now in for Thorpe, the run rate began to climb, a solid 146 run partnership saw Thorpe reach 166 before Evo fell for a better than a run a ball 76 b S Punnasseril Joseph followed in the 39th over by Chaz, also on 76 but a slightly slower rate, ro (T Thomas), Thorpe now on 190/4 adding just 3 more runs for 1 more wicket (C Wijesinghe (1) c J Toulson b A Santhosh) finishing on 193/5 from the 40 overs.
Jamie Evans -76 from 67 balls with 13 x 4’s
Charlie Able - 76 from 112 balls with 10 x 4’s
Newton Hill Innings
Thorpe took the first wicket in the 3rd over, Y Portel (4) a good catch by Charlie Wentworth b C Wijesinghe, followed in the 5th over by another good catch, this time a high one S Punnasseril Joseph (12) c & b C Wijesinghe. 2 down but scoring quick runs, 64/2 off 9, brought the first change, leading wicket taker Jack Unwin replacing Joe Lavery, a change of pace & inevitably, a change of batter in the 14th T Bilsborough (33) b J Unwin, 79/3. Newton Hill reached the 100 mark for drinks with no further wickets, this looked like it was going to be a close one with Newton Hill scoring at 5 runs an over & 7 wickets remaining. After the break however, things changed when R Harris (42) was bowled by J Unwin & a spell of tight bowling/fielding started to put pressure on the away teams batters to push for runs, Jack taking his 3rd wicket in the 24th, A Santhosh (2) c C Wentworth & then completed a superb 5 for in the 28th first removing J Mathew (14) c U Malik followed 3 balls later bowling A Khan (0) completing another 10 over spell, 125/7! Thorpe finished off the remaining batters by with over 5 overs to spare, T Thomas (9) c C Abel b M Faulkner, another sharp (painful) catch, J Toulson (0) c C Abel b C Wijesinghe & B Pappachan (9) b M Faulkner. All out 135, 16 points for Thorpe!!!
Jack Unwin - 10 overs 2 maidens 5/32
Chamila Wijesinghe - 9 overs 1 maiden 4/29
Matt Faulkner - 7.3 overs 2/20
Russell Harris - 42 from 50 balls with 4 x 4’s & 3 x 6’s
Tom Bilsborough - 33 from 42 balls with 6 x 4’s & 1 x 6
