Frickley Athletic Ladies 2nd XI

⚽ Football is about so much more than results.

Today, at the same tournament, we had our U7 Girls and Frickley Ladies 2nd XI representing the club side by side. The U7s finished in an impressive 2nd place 🥈, while the Ladies secured 3rd place 🥉 in their competition.

But today wasn't really about where teams finished.

It was incredibly special for a mother and daughter (and auntie) to wear the same badge and represent the same club. One at the very beginning of her football journey, the other continuing hers. To be part of the same tournament, playing for the same club and sharing the same love of the game is something neither of them will ever forget. 💙

It was also a reminder of how important it is to have players of all ages involved in the game. Our younger girls are the future of Frickley, and it is a privilege for us as Ladies players to play alongside them and watch them develop. We hope that by pulling on the Frickley shirt, we can help inspire them to keep enjoying their football and dreaming big ✨

The support between both teams throughout the day was fantastic 🙌. The Ladies were cheering on the girls and celebrating their successes, while the girls didn't stop with chants and support whenever they could 🎶👏.

Days like today show what grassroots football is really about. Not just football, but family, community, role models and creating opportunities for the next generation 🤠

Well done to every player who represented today. You did us all proud 🫶

And what an amazing season we’ve had 👀

From the very start to the very end, we’ve been more than just a team, we’ve been friends, a proper family. Through every training session, every match, and every laugh, we have made friends for life.

To have our captain and vice captain with us at the beginning and still leading us at the end says everything about the commitment and heart in this group 💪

It’s not just been about football either… it’s been the gatherings after games at the pub, the laughs, the bonding, and the memories we’ve made off the pitch that mean just as much.

We’ve had our challenges, losing players to injuries has been tough, and seeing some of our teammates move on hasn’t been easy. But even then, the support has never dropped. Injured or not, everyone has still been there, backing the team all the way. That says everything about who we are.

It hasn’t always been smooth, plenty of ups and downs, but we stuck together, kept going, and achieved what we set out to do… finishing 3rd. And what a massive improvement that is from last season!

Frickley Ladies fell to a 2–1 defeat against Medics in a game of two very different halves.

The first half saw Frickley struggle to find their rhythm, looking unsettled and unable to get a foothold in the game. Medics capitalised on this, taking control and finding the net twice to put the hosts on the back foot heading into the break.

After a strong team talk at half-time, Frickley came out with renewed energy and determination. The second half was largely one-way traffic, with the ladies piling on the pressure and creating a number of attacking opportunities. Despite their efforts, the ball just wouldn’t fall kindly in front of goal.

Frickley did manage to pull one back, giving themselves hope, but despite fighting right to the final whistle, they were unable to find an equaliser.

A spirited second-half performance wasn’t quite enough on the day, as the ladies narrowly missed out, finishing with a 2–1 loss.
